‘Bourne 4’ Gets Moving With ‘Ultimatum’ Writer
  |  @   |

Even though we’ve known that a fourth installment in the Bourne series was likely on the way, it seems now that it could be happening soon. Universal has apparently hired a writer and is moving forward with the project in hopes of having it out in 2010.

The Bourne Ultimatum writer George Nolfi is now working on the script for what they’re calling Bourne 4 (hopefully a working title) and Paul Greengrass is expected to return to direct with Matt Damon to star.

The big catch here for most fans is that there is no fourth book by Bourne author Robert Ludlum, only one by Eric Van Lustbader. Because of this, Bourne 4 will make their own story up and likely have it set in South America.

This is potentially exciting news to Bourne fans, but the thought of a brand new story being made is always cause for concern — even if your name is Peter Jackson or Guillermo del Toro.

Personally, I think every Bourne movie is the same dance (*car chase* — *ninja punching skills* — *running fast* — “I’m coming for/watching you” — “It’s Bourne!” — “Try really, really hard to kill him this time!”)… you know the deal. It’s sort of like Saw, but with action instead of horror.

I’m sure if they do have Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass for this, it will make its big profit, so why not go ahead and do it. It makes plenty of business sense.

  4. To me, an original story makes this more interesting to me. I read the first book, but liked the movie better. I never read any of the others, because I hated the first book so much. The book had too much drama and too many twists.

  5. We called 3 “The Bourne Redundancy”. I guess if they take the franchise in a new direction I can get behind that. I enjoy the character. But if it is more of the same cat/mouse ‘why did you mess with my head’.. then I’m not really interested.

  6. The only thing the Borne Ultimatum film had in common with the book that it was supposedly adapted from, is the title, Ultimatum the book had a different plot, Marie was still alive and Jason is middle aged and is getting used to being David Webb and he goes up against Carlos the Jackal….. I still loved the film though….it kicked ass!.
