‘Call of Duty: World at War’ Images
  |

After Call of Duty 4 raised the bar for all first-person shooter (FPS) titles — and brought them out of the mire of WWII — I couldn’t help but be wary of the franchise heading back into the trenches for Call of Duty 5: World at War. But after watching the trailers and seeing the amazing imagery coming out of this game (who doesn’t want to fire up those wicked flame throwers?!), it’s hard not to get excited for this title! Add to that a co-op mode for the campaign (the campaign being the weak-link of CoD 4, which looks vastly better for CoD 5), and the already stellar class-based multi-player, and all of the ingredients are there.

With the pieces in place as they are, you’ll be hard pressed to find a FPS fan who isn’t chomping at the bit for this one!

Call of Duty: World at War is currently set to be released on November 11 for all current gaming platforms, as well as for the Playstation 2 and Nintendo DS systems.

Check out a ton of new images from the game here after the jump.

About

Call of Duty is back, redefining war like you’ve never experienced before. Building on the Call of Duty 4®: Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War immerses players into the most gritty and chaotic WWII combat ever experienced. Players band together to survive the most harrowing and climactic battles that led to the demise of the Axis powers on the European and Pacific fronts. The title offers an uncensored experience with unique enemies and combat variety, including Kamikaze fighters, ambush attacks, Banzai charges and cunning cover tactics, as well as explosive on-screen action through the all new four-player cooperative campaign. The addictive competitive multi-player has also been enhanced with new infantry and vehicle-based action, a higher level cap, more weapons, and a host of new Perks, maps and challenges.

  1. Really Call of Duty, really? I thought 4 was amazing, and pretty much the best thing to happen to first person shooters in a long time, and now you take 2 steps backwards to retread old ideas? Shiny new graphics and crisp new physics are not nearly enough justification for your complete lack of ideas. Here, I’ll think of one for you: how about the coming war of resources, where you have large, multinational coalitions battling each other through the use of both conventional and guerilla tactics. China vs. Russia vs. USA, with various allies included on each side. Yes, that’s right, a three-way war. It would be an amazing plot and you know it.

  2. While i must agree that I was a bit taken back when I heard they were going back to the WW2 theater, let’s not judge the game til we play it.. The franchise has consistently put out some kick ass games, and plus this one has 4 player co-op, how can u go wrong with that?..
If it makes u feel any better, its rumored that COD6 will be a futuristic shooter..
Im psyched for World at War.. its been a while since a good shooter came out..
