New Image From Matthew Vaughn’s ‘Kick-Ass’
  |  @   |

Moriarty from AICN had the opportunity to go to London for a three-day set visit for Matthew Vaughn‘s super-indie, Kick-Ass. So far, not much information about the movie has been reported, but a brand new image has been released of Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Red Mist.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the project, Kick-Ass is a comic series by Mark Millar that was acquired by director Matthew Vaughn before it even existed. Vaughn then — instead of kissing studio ass to obtain financing — went out and raised $75 million on his own to make what’s likely the biggest budgeted indie movie of all time. The story is basically a modernized Watchmen-type story that follows a high school kid named Dave Lizewski who decides to become a superhero. He makes his own costume and goes off to fight crime, eventually even using MySpace as a way to learn where his services can be used. When his actions are eventually captured on a cell phone video, he’s dubbed “Kick-Ass” and he inspires others to dress up and fight crime as well.

You may be thinking that this sounds like the Twilight of superhero movies, but trust me, remove this thought immediately. Kick-Ass is well-known for its excessive amounts of ultra-violence, including an 11-year-old girl who slices through people with a katana blade as easily as most girls sit and watch The Hills. The Bride herself would blush.

The cast includes Aaron Johnson (Shanghai Knights, The Illusionist) as Kick-Ass; Nicolas Cage as an former cop who trains his previously mentioned 11-year-old daughter who’s played by Chloë Moretz (Bolt) to… deal with naughty people; Mark Strong (Stardust, Sunshine) as mob boss Big Daddy, and Christopher “McLovin” Mintz-Plasse as Big Daddy’s son who becomes the nemesis of Kick-Ass named Red Mist.

More images to come soon.
