More ‘Watchmen’ Producer Insight; Settlement By Monday?
  |  @   |

Not even a day after Watchmen producer Lloyd Levin shared his very specific thoughts on this whole lawsuit situation with Fox (see An Inside Perspective At The ‘Watchmen’ Trial), producer Larry Gordon also decided to try and chime in.

Gordon’s letter was written and sent directly to Judge Gary Feess, who — citing that Gordon refused to answer certain questions — had already decided that Gordon would have no say in the trial at all. This put him in an unfortunate position, as the entire trial is hinged on the fact that Larry Gordon did not take the proper steps to secure the rights before going to Warner Bros. with them.

The letter supposedly threw blame at both Fox and Mr. Gordon’s lawyers at the time, stating that he took the precautions necessary, but was not aware of another, older document that still gave Fox distribution rights. Gordon’s logic of thinking here, is that his lawyers should have been aware of this and that it also should have been taken care of.

Because Gordon has no say, all this doesn’t really help the case at all, which is a shame, but what can they do.

Speaking of the case, things look like that may be ready to jump some steps in the very near future.

Both Fox and Warner Bros. asked Judge Gary Feess to delay a trial (not the January 20th one to decide whether or not the movie can come out on March 6; that’s still on) that had been set for this Friday in order to further discuss a possible settlement over the weekend.

If all goes well, this thing could be all taken care of by Monday and we would likely still get to see Watchmen by March 6th. Unfortunately, if this does happen, it means that WB paid Fox a shitload of money they didn’t deserve to get it.

Here’s hoping Judge Gary Feess realizes how pathetic Fox is and throws something heavy at them. I’m also hoping that Warner Bros. presses charges against Fox for theft after it’s all said and done.

  1. I saw a commercial trailer last night that said March 6 was the release date – so I’m very excited!
