The Possible Sad, Sudden Death Of ‘The Green Hornet’
  |  @   |

Over the years, many news pieces have been produced in regard to The Green Hornet and it’s potential new movie specimen. Among these pieces were news of Kevin Smith making the movie, Kevin Smith not making the movie, Seth Rogen making the movie, and Seth Rogen getting Stephen Chow to star as Kato and direct the movie.

Since it was announced that Rogen was doing it with writer/friend Evan Goldberg, the project moved along smoothly and it really looked like something that was going to get done this time around.

Then came word that Stephen Chow was probably still going to play Kato, but no longer going to direct… or was it the other way around? No one really seemed sure what was going on, and with this, those big, dark clouds began to move in slowly.

Now comes word that as feared, The Green Hornet appears to be clinging to the weakest possible tuft of grass on top of the steepest of steep hills.

The word comes via Drew McWeeny (formerly of AICN), who is reporting a triple-threat of bad news signs for the project.

…I’ve been hearing rumors that there were major hesitations at Sony. Then at Sundance, I heard several people say that the film was off completely. I spoke this afternoon with a source close to the film, and while they didn’t call it completely dead, they did say it is “highly unlikely” that the film will shoot in 2009 at all.

I loved the idea of this movie both when Kevin Smith had it and when Seth Rogen had it, simply because I enjoyed the idea of someone funny handling a kind of comic, hero-type character. Even having had interest in the movie, though, this news is not heartbreaking to me, being someone who’s unfamiliar with the property.

Unfortunately for those who are fans and who were looking forward to this with bright eyes, this does not look good friends. But then again, you just never know in Hollywood — tomorrow it could be full-speed fast-tracked.
