‘Watchmen’: New Images, ‘Black Freighter’ DVD & Blu-ray Details
  |  @   |

While we’ve been more than spoiled with Watchmen goodies over the past few months, it’s always good to get more. This particular day, we have some new images, a link to check out, and our first look at the cover for the Tales of the Black Freighter DVD and Blu-ray editions.

Zack Snyder has officially launched the website for his new production company, Cruel and Unusual Films, and in celebration of, he presented EW with a brand new image from Watchmen. The picture is from the beginning of the movie when Rorschach is going to do a little sleuthing; and what’s the easiest way to get somewhere fast in the world of superheroes? That’s right, grappling hook! Sweet. To see the full image, click above.

Snyder developed the site as a way to keep people up-to-date on what was going on with his projects and anything else that was going on.

The other images aren’t new; they were featured on The New Frontiersman website along with documents and other things. These are all presented as if they were shared as actual U.S. history and archived documents, so it’s pretty damn cool. Now those images are also included on a new Flickr page, so we figured we would share them with you. Make sure you go to the sites to read the documents and get full descriptions, like an official letter of surrender from the Vietnamese and the executive order from President Nixon to allow Dr. Manhattan to go to Vietnam, called Operation: Wrath of God. There’s even the badge that soldiers who were involved wore.

Last, Warner Bros. has released the details and cover art from the Tales of the Black Freighter DVD and Blu-ray edition, which will be in stores March 24, 2009; it will include the animated version of the comic within Watchmen about a desperate man who builds a raft out of corpses in order to try and get home. Eventually this will be fused into a copy of Watchmen for an ultimate DVD which is said to be like watching the whole comic. Special features on the disc will include Story Within A Story: The Books of Watchmen and a look at Green Lantern (interesting), also there’s digital copy on the Blu-ray version. [DVD/Blu-ray images below via UGO, since there version was much cleaner than WB’s versions.]
