NYCC 09: Bruce Timm Discusses ‘Wonder Woman’ Animated Movie
  |

Legendary animator Bruce Timm was on hand to discuss the latest DC Universe original animated movie, Wonder Woman at over the weekend New York Comic Con, which is where it made it’s world premiere.

The movie will be released March 3 and features the talents of Keri Russell as the voice of Wonder Woman and Nathan Fillion as the voice of Lt. Steve Trevor.

Timm, who has previously worked on a plethora of DC’s animated videos, said the Wonder Woman from the new movie will contain aspects from every era of the character’s rich history.

“[This Wonder Woman] actually wasn’t based on any one specific comic. There was some misinformation about that earlier on — that it was based on the George Perez version. There are similarities, but it’s not specifically based on George’s run,” Timm said during a roundtable interview at NYCC. “We kind of look back at the entire history of the character and sort of cherry pick the things we like about each version…then smush them all together to see if they work.”

“So there’s stuff in there from the Linda Carter series, there’s stuff in there from the Greg Rucka run, stuff from the Perez Run, and even stuff from the very first Golden Age stories,” he said.

Timm said originally, the story contained scenes where Wonder Woman would lose her powers when tied up, controversially referred to as bondage. While he personally did not have a problem with that aspect of the film, DC’s producers requested it be taken out entirely, which was not really an issue.

Wonder Woman (2009) is available now for pre-order on DVD, 2-Disc Special Edition DVD, and Blu-ray.
