The teaser trailer for Overture Film’s upcoming sci-fi/horror thriller Pandorum is now online. Watch it here below.

In the film, which is from producers of the Resident Evil film franchise, Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster star as two crew members who awake aboard an abandon spaceship out in deep space in a post-apocalypse situation. The two have no memory of who they are, how long they’ve been asleep, or what their mission was. At first they think that they are alone, but they soon discover that they’re not and the reality of their situation is more horrifying than they could have imagined.

Foster (X-Men: The Last Stand) appeared at Overture’s Pandorum panel on Saturday at WonderCon in San Francisco, where the trailer debuted, along with another clip from the film. Along with Foster, who plays Bower, were his co-stars German actress Antje Traue and world champion martial arts fighter Cung Le.

Traue plays Nadia, a member of a group of scientists on space ship who’s is the sole survivor among them. Traue, who lends the Resident Evil “Alice” look to the film, explained that Nadia has “to find a pure way to survive, she has no memory of who she is or why she’s there.” Le plays Manh, which he said means “strength” in Vietnamese. Manh has been awake for a while so he knows more about what’s going on and how to survive a little bit because he’s been there longer.

It was noted that the cast was not supposed to talk about the “menace” of the film, which could possibly be something more than the epidemic mentioned in the teaser trailer, so instead they talked a little bit about working on the film. Traue referred to director Christian Alvart as a “genius” and said that it was a technical shoot. Le talked about the doing his own stunts, which he said left him feeling the same pain as he does after one of his fighting matches, and said that there would be some “ass-kicking all around” in the film.

Foster said that it was a “grueling shoot” that resulted in lots of “concussions and ripped toenails and black outs and painkillers.” It was noted that while Pandorum might seem like other deep space scifi thrillers like Aliens and Solaris, it doesn’t rely on the use of claustrophobic spaces. Foster revealed that the spaceship that they are on is “vast” — about the size of a large city — that there’s “lots of trouble in dark corners.” As his character Bower and Quaid’s Payton explore the ship and find that they’re not alone, Foster said “the threat escalates quite substantially.”

Of the story, Foster said that it is a “truly terrifying, horrific nightmare and it identifies your most primitive fears, what it means to survive when you’re stripped of the technologies that we have, when you’re stripped of your humanity, when you’re stripped of your identity and you’re stripped of memory.”

Pandorum hits theaters on September 4, 2009.
