The Net has been buzzing with rumors today, and those rumors are in regards to casting for one of the next big superhero movies from director Kenneth Branagh — Thor.
The first big rumor came from Latino Review, who received an e-mail from someone claiming to have spotted Branagh having lunch with with three men, one being identified as Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd, the giant blonde vampire from HBO’s True Blood. This naturally fits the profile of Thor very well, so naturally speculations began.
Another less fitting name being tossed around as a possible Thor is Channing Tatum, but that one sounds… unlikely.
Next up, IESB has heard word that Branagh also met with Josh Hartnett in regards to possibly being the villain, Thor’s brother Loki. Apparently they like the fact that Hartnett has never really played a villain.
I’m personally not familiar with Thor and who may fit the characters. SkarsgÃ¥rd certainly looks the part… almost perfectly. The question is, though, how well can he act? He is the son of Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd, and he was in both HBO’s Generation Kill and again, True Blood. I watched the first season of True Blood and it’s still a little hard to tell. He definitely has a huge presence, but the character is sometimes a little dull and not very scary, as he’s supposed to be.
Keep on brain that none of these are at all confirmed. Kenneth Branagh may just like hanging with the young crowds, we don’t know. We should know more soon, though.
So, is he going to be Thor? Is he just a friend of Mr. Branagh? We don’t know, but he sure does look the part. And it’s fun to speculate. Take this with a grain of salt.
Ben, I love Sean Bean but there is no way he could be Thor – no way. He is too old and too small (under 6 foot).
Alexander Skarsgard is an experienced actor – a terrific actor. He’s big (6’4″) and handsome and Swedish … and very fit.He remains lean for film but could easily get more bulk for the part. Watch Generation Kill or any of his Swedish movies. Skarsgard is great! He is Thor in every way. Hope Branagh chooses him and that he wants the part.

How many times do I have to say this? Sean Bean should be Thor.
There. I said it again.

Skarsgard would have to pack some serious muscle on but I could see it. Loved him in Generation Kill.
