MP3 Deal: ‘Whitesnake’ (1987)
  |  @   |

Today’s spotlight MP3 album deal of the day at Amazon is Whitesnake by the band Whitesnake for only $1.99.

Former Deep Purple lead singer David Coverdale formed Whitesnake in 1977 and when the band transitioned from blue-rock to hard rock with 1984’s Slide It In they began to enjoy some moderate success. But it was their self-titled 1987 album that was the major commercial success, earning them a spot in the 1980’s hair metal pantheon alongside the likes of Motley Crue and Poison.

Two dollars is an awesome deal for the nine tunes — most of them hits — from the band’s most popular album. “Still Of The Night,” “Here I Go Again,” and “Crying In The Rain” are worth the discount price alone. Grab it while you can, because it will mostly like go up to nine bucks after today.

This album, or rather I should say its subsequent tour, spawned the phrase [that I coined] “Please let me be in Whitesnake.” That’s because after the album was recorded, Coverdale fired the other band members who had played on it — guitarist John Sykes, bassist Neil Murray, and drummer Aynsley Dunbar. For Whitesnake‘s supporting tour (opening for Motley Crue) and music videos, Coverdale recruited some of rock’s top names — guitarist Vivian Campbell (Dio), guitarist Adrian Vandenberg (Vandenberg), bassist Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot), and drummer Tommy Aldridge turning Whitesnake overnight into a heavy metal supergroup. Because Whitesnake had been somewhat obscure up until then, all their new fans didn’t even realize that the superstar musicians were actually NOT on the album!

  1. Wow…. the one thing that annoys me about this site is the constant barrage of “news” about “deals” from Amazon. Is Amazon a corporate sponsor of this site? If so… fine. It’s just annoying when I come here to look for cool Geek news, and tidbits and see offers for Whitesnake albums. Don’t get me wrong I like my Snake… it’s hardly news, or true Geek. Even the bundle DEAL for Narnia on Bluray isn’t news… it’s an advertisement.

  2. $1.99 is worth it just for “Still of the Night”.

  3. @Rod
I wouldn’t call a few “deals” per month a constant barrage.

If Amazon was a corporate sponsor of this site, then I wouldn’t need my day job, thanks. Amazon has thousands of deals every day in all of their stores aside from movies/music/books, yet I don’t post those. And I don’t post about EVERY entertainment deal either — I post those that I personally consider to be a good deal that I think my readers would ALSO be interested in. It’s because I’m looking for these deals for MYSELF that I even find them, and then pass them on for my readers. There’s nothing forcing you to click on the Amazon link. If you’re not interested, then skip to the next story. This is the Internet, it’s not like a post about a deal is taking up the room for another type of post — there’s room for all of it.

And with that, I stand by this post (and all my other posts btw) that will benefit anyone who is interested in getting this album for two friggin dollars, thanks.

  4. I don’t mind the amazon promoting, but promoting White Snake is just wrong. For shame GoD, for shame!
