Ridley Scott’s ‘Robin Hood’ Being Rewritten By Tom Stoppard
  |  @   |

Remember when I said that the loose ends had been tied and that we could move on from all of the confusions that had arisen since pre-production on Ridley Scott‘s Robin Hood? Well, I appear to have been wrong, because there’s now yet another interesting twist in the construction of this film.

The word on the ‘net from Showbiz 411 (the new site from Roger Friedman — the man fired for reviewing that leaked copy of Wolverine for Fox) is that Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love, Brazil) is handling a complete “top-to-bottom” rewrite on the script penned by Brian Helgeland (Mystic River, Man on Fire).

The curious thing here, is that this movie is already a good chunk of the way into filming, and we’ve even seen star Russell Crowe in in character. So how do these rewrites affect the progress? Are they stopping and changing everything, or is Stoppard simply adding his fingerprint to each scene with a tweak here and there?

It will certainly be interesting to see how Stoppard’s magic touch will add to the final product; as well as who, if not both men, will receive the film’s writing credit.

  1. Well… that just added another 15 minutes of featurette to the dvd… Scott’s films often times seem to have odd stories like this that seem to hurt the theatrical version of the film in some capacity.
