New ‘Sherlock Holmes’ Images & Details

After a burst of images and news from Guy Ritchie‘s upcoming take on Sherlock Holmes, it had been quiet for a while. So as to remind us that the production is still alive, well, and coming straight at us, USA Today paid a little visit to the set and brought back a bunch of images. Some of the images we’ve seen, but most of them are shiny new.

The movie, set for release on Christmas day, will start at the beginning of Sherlock Holmes lore, taking pages from the iconic character’s creator, Arthur Conan Doyle. The hope is, with a successful first offering, this can and will become the next big franchise taking the classic Holmes‘ tricks with a lot more action and fights.

The addition of martial arts, bare-knuckle fist-slapping, and overall aggressiveness isn’t going over so well in the good ol’ U.K., where many people seem to think this is a mockery of Doyle’s classic works. But with a promise from Ritchie that the fighting styles were mentioned by Conan Doyle himself, and that they just add a little intensity to the apprehension of bad guys; as well as some impressive footage that was debuted — it seems England is cuddling up to the project a little more each day.

If you’re wondering why Sherlock doesn’t have the look he always has, as you might have guessed, it’s because that look is a little dated — even if it all is set in 1891! Guy Ritchie saw this and decided to find a whole new wardrobe of fitting and appealing time period clothing for stars Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, and Mark Strong to wear.

One new move to the dance is the portrayal of Watson. Most know of him as bumbling and simple, but here, they’ve made him a required part of the duo. Without Watson, Holmes wouldn’t even get to the crime scenes where he’s able to use his deducing genius. As they put it in the story: “each are one-half of a whole.”

Sherlock Holmes looks better every time we see something for it. While the brief footage we have seen is great, I’m still anxiously awaiting a full trailer to see what we’re really in for.

Check out USA Today for all the new images and to read to full story.

  1. As someone who has recently read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s works for the first time, I’m very excited about this production. I’m glad to read that Watson will not be portrayed as a bumbler. In the stories he is hardly that. He’s forthright, tough, loyal, and certainly someone you would want on your side in a tough spot. In the books, I really ended up adoring Watson. Now, will the movie show that Watson is Holmes’ drug connection?

  2. Looks like they’re going to film the sequel starring Brad Pitt as professor Moriarti.
