A while back, Gizmodo had the brilliant idea to find the actual size specs of fictional space crafts and create a chart comparing their size to our own very real International Space Station. Now with the the release of Star Trek and the presentation of a new, much larger USS Enterprise, they’ve decided to do the same thing. As it turns out, the old Battlestar Galactica‘s ship is the one being used for the chart. It was found out later that the new Galactica measures 1,438.64 meters — almost 1,000 meters longer than the new Enterprise, and very close to the 1,600 (about a mile) meter Imperial Star Destroyer from Star Wars.
I hope Gizmodo soon has a chart that includes the new Galactica and the Star Destroyer. It would be very interesting to see how they dwarf these other, very massive ships. It’s also cool to see just how big the International Space Station is. You could go even further and add man-made cities and worlds like the Death Star and the Citadel from Mass Effect.
Pretty amazing to think about. I’m quite sure that we’re a long, long way off from pulling that kind of engineering off — we haven’t even found weird-ass aliens yet, dammit!
Now…I just want to see someone parallel park one of these things.
First, I believe someone got the dimension of the “new” Enterprise wrong. 725.35 meters is way to big. 725.35 feet is far more believable. That would put it in about the right size given the style.
Second, I’d like to point out that there’s a fantastic website that shows the relative sizes of all kinds of “starships”…

Personally, I’d rather have the NX-01. Sure, it’s slow and small, but easy to maintain and fun to fly!
just by watching the various shows you can tell that chart is WAAAYYYYY off……the shuttle on the Galactica is a lot larger than the one from the Enterprise so by using that alone as a refefrence (not to mention the windows on both main ships) the actual size of the Enterprise A would be about half of what is in the chart…..basically about the length of just the Galactica’s engines area, or 1/4 to 1/3 the length overall….not the half that’s shown
