‘Spider-Man 4’ Update: Kirsten Dunst In, Morbius Out
  |  @   |

The NY Post was able to sit down with Spider-Man 4 producer Todd Black and get some answers to some of the big rumors that have been floating around the Internet for the past couple of months. Namely: the inclusion or departure of Kirsten Dunst; the use of the vampire Morbius as a villain; and something about a wedding for Peter Parker and Mary Jane. Black was able to handle all of these rumors with ease.

He announced that Kirsten Dunst was indeed on board, which isn’t too much of a shock as she seemed fairly confident in here return while out promoting How to Lose Friends and Alienate People (Read: Kirsten Dunst Unofficially In For ‘Spider-Man 4’). Many fans seemed intent on her not returning to the franchise, but I personally am all for it. The role hasn’t had to be anything that supports the movie and that we rely on, so whether you like her or not, she is Mary Jane — changing to a completely different actress would just be too annoying to be worth it. Black also cleared the air and admitted that he has heard nothing about any kind of wedding being involved.

As for the villain being Morbius, Black said that’s not happening, which is great news. I’m not familiar with Morbius, but from what my comic book friends tell me, he wouldn’t be good at all; plus, do we need more vampires? Black went on to give a little hint into who the villain might be, but no specifics.

We’re just coming up with who the villain’s going to be now. We’ll be shooting in New York again. Trust me, people will appreciate who we pick, because it’ll be a big part of New York.

I’m not nearly qualified to begin speculating into who this may be. The Kingpin seems to be an option, going by the source article. Most people seem to be calling for the usage of The Lizard, who has been set up more than enough in prior movies. Hopefully we will know for sure soon.

Along with Kirsten Dunst, it is expected that Tobey Maguire will sign to return. Around the time that Spider-Man 3 came out, it looked like that would be the last hurrah for all parties. But considering how badly it did, and how long it’s been, we’re now seemingly back at square one. We know director Sam Raimi is out to prove something with this one, and it is only fitting that his original cast help him to accomplish that.

Any of you hardcore comic fans, feel free to decode Mr. Black’s above quote and figure out who the mystery New York villain could be.

  2. Well without going too far into it, major villains not used so far are carnage, kingpin, kraven, mysterio, vulture, electro, lizard ( although as already mentioned his human side has more than been set up already ) rhino, vermin and shocker.

Although adding the black cat would be a nice touch. I don’t think theirs any code breaking to be done in his statement. If I had to guess I’d say lizard as a sidestory but kingpin as the main villain.

  3. Fox currently holds the rights to Kingpin as a Daredevil character, so I’m gonna go with Lizard and Kraven.

I just hope they don’t try to shoehorn a moral into this one. Don’t teach a lesson, just tell a good story.

  4. The Lizard/Kraven would be cool to see – Rehash the “Torment” storyline that Todd McFarlane wrote back in the 90s – have that scene where Spidey digs himself up from his own grave.

Raimi has a lot to prove being that Part 2 and 3 were merely hollow echoes of the original.
