Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr. May Re-Team For ‘Cowboys & Aliens’
  |  @   |

A little over a year ago, it was reported that Robert Downey Jr. was attached to star in an adaptation of the Scott Mitchell Rosenberg graphic novel, Cowboys & Aliens. It appears now that his Iron Man and Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau may be hoping to join the party as well.

Nothing is official yet, but it would be a great job for anyone to land, considering the veritable powerhouse studio tag-team of DreamWorks, Universal (and possibly Paramount for distribution) and larger-than-life producing group of Brian Grazer and Ron Howard of Imagine Entertainment, as well as Steven Spielberg. Also producing is Rosenberg and Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

The premise of Cowboys & Aliens is simple: if aliens are always visiting our planet now, why not in the 1800s? That’s just what happens when aliens land in Arizona in the Old West amidst battling cowboys and Apache Indians. When the aliens, who hold much better weaponry and technology, try to enslave all of the humans, they find themselves in a harder fight than they expected.

Transformers and Star Trek writers Kurtzman and Orci also wrote this script with Lost producer Damon Lindelof. The trio first worked together on the script for Star Trek 2.
