Fox To Make New Western With Science Fiction Twist & No, It’s Not ‘Firefly’
  |  @   |

Just when you thought that Fox couldn’t enrage you any more than they already have, it has now been announced that Chuck producer Scott Rosenbaum is developing a new show for the television studio that will supposedly be an “epic Western with a sci-fi twist” about a gunslinger who is caught between two worlds. Rosenbaum will be producing the show with Warner Brothers TV and Terminator Salvation director McG‘s Wonderland Sound and Vision studio. No title or further details are known as of this moment.

The big catch in all of this, is that it sounds an awful lot like the basic premise for another former Fox title that just so happens to have a massive cult following of fans dying for its revival: Joss Whedon’s Firefly. Granted, the whole “stuck between worlds” bit sounds like it won’t be identical to Firefly, but it is still enough to scratch your head, and for some, maybe even become more angry.

Not too long ago, Fox plainly confirmed that they’re fully aware of the demand for Firefly‘s resurrection, and also that they would still consider bringing it back if the proper situation presented itself (Read: Once Again, The Choices That Might Ignite The Glorious Return Of “˜Firefly’). With this news that a similar project has been given the go-ahead, one might be lead to believe that they’re in the “proper situation,” but instead of bringing back something that already has a strong and faithful following with some guaranteed numbers, they’ve apparently decided to go with something brand new. This of course means that the goal is to make something that does even better than Firefly…with the risk of an even worse failure shining bright.

  1. I just want EPIC WESTERN, minus any gimmicks.

  2. Similar only if you automatically consider all sci fi with a western twist to suggest Firefly. It sounds more like Stephen King’s Dark Tower series because crazy enough that’s about a gunslinger caught between several worlds in a weird sci fi/western realm.

  3. Actually it sounds like another Fox TV series that they cancelled. Do you remember “The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.”? It was on from September of 1993 until May of 1994. It was a pretty good show that dealt with the “Coming Thing”. Items that we have today were referenced throughout the show. It dealt with the “ORB” from the future that had amazing powers. Just thought that I would add this little bit of information.

  4. “An epic Western with a sci-fi twist” sounds more like The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. than Firefly, which was more of a sci-fi with a Western twist.

  7. Don’t worry its Fox so

    a) It’ll suck and last a season (two at max)
    b) It’ll never get off the ground
    c) It will be awesome, but will be taken off the air so fast we’ll never really come to love it so will not miss it too much.

Thanks Fox! You make tv watching fun.
