Watch Now: New Trailer For Mike Dougherty’s ‘Trick ‘R Treat’
  |  @   |

Mike Dougherty‘s (writer of X2, Superman Returns) Trick ‘r Treat has been around for a few years now. It was originally slated for release in 2007, it had a good buzz about it, and of the few things there were to see from it, it looked really fun. Sadly, for some reason, something wasn’t working in the mechanics of the project, and it has pretty much been delayed and delayed again since then. The movie never really recovered from this severe mishandling, and instead of being released wide in theaters, it will simply just be put out on DVD on October 6, 2009. Below, you’ll find a brand new HD trailer for the movie. If you haven’t seen a trailer yet, it’s a must watch for fanatics of the Halloween season and of horror movies alike.

While this is semi-good for those who have been waiting for ages to see the movie, it’s also very unfortunate for those involved. We live in a world where really great horror movies are an endangered species, and most horror releases are watered down and genetically modified to adhere to a younger audience that doesn’t even know how to appreciate good horror. Many of the best names and sites who really know their horror rave about Trick ‘r Treat, and as you’ll see, put it among some good company. It’s a movie that fans of the genre just can’t help but be excited to see — I know I’m twitching to finally check it out.

The cherry on top here is the great cast. Actually, it could quite possibly be the best cast I’ve ever seen for a movie that will ultimately become a direct-to-DVD title. Featured in the cast are the likes of Brian Cox (Adaptation, X2), Anna Paquin (True Blood, X-Men), Dylan Baker (Spider Man 2, Fido), Leslie Bibb (Iron Man, Midnight Meat Train), and Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica, Dollhouse).

Trick ‘r Treat is based on Dougherty’s own short story, and it’s told using the same recipe as Creepshow and Tales from the Crypt, with four different storylines that all interconnect with one mysterious boy that looks like Satan’s own Little Big Planet sackboy. In the same vein as Se7en, the story revolves around the rules of Halloween: 1) Wear a costume; 2) Hand out treats; 3) Never blow out the Jack-O-Lantern; 4) Always check your candy.

Michael Dougherty’s new horror movie, produced by Bryan Singer. Trick ‘r Treat is four interwoven stories that take place on Halloween with such characters as a staid high school principal who is a Halloween serial killer, a college-age virgin seeking that special guy, a woman who hates dressing up for Halloween and whose husband is obsession with the holiday and a group of young teens who pull a cruel prank.

  1. I’m buying this movie, hands down, when it comes out on DVD. I don’t need to watch the trailer because i’ve read so much from 2007 when it was supposed to come out.
