Neve Campbell Confirmed For ‘Scream 4’ After All?

The Weinstein Company hasn’t had the greatest luck in the world (award winners: yes; money winners: not so much), so the brothers, Bob and Harvey Weinstein, are retracting back to what brought them so much success through Dimension Films (who came with them after they left Miramax): genre movies. While sharing their plans for the future, a basic update on Scream 4 was offered, and it included a one Neve Campbell.

It was announced a couple months ago that a new Scream trilogy was being developed, and already has original writer Kevin Williamson working on the script, and both David Arquette and Courteney Cox set to return. The unknown cards to the franchise reboot were whether star Neve Campbell and director Wes Craven would come back. Reports indicated that Craven was still unsure and waiting to read the script before he decides, and Campbell actually came right out and said that she would not be doing it.

While Campbell seemed pretty firm in her decision, it appears that she may actually be involved after all. Bob Weinstein is stating that Scream IV (not sure if they’re randomly jumping to Roman numerals, but that’s what it says) will begin production in April or May, they are indeed talking to Craven about directing, and that Cox, Arquette, AND Campbell would be starring. This sounds pretty legit coming from Weinstein himself, but considering how quickly Campbell initially turned it down, something feels off about it.

If it is all true, it would definitely be a big plus for the new trilogy; keep in mind, Scream 3 — the one hated by most — didn’t have Craven or Williamson involved. I for one am actually getting pretty excited for more Scream. If the new movies are anything like the first two, they could be some pretty fun times.

  2. Neve has agreed to come back because they are finally tying up all the storylines in this next film. One recurring theme in every chapter of Scream was motherhood, (Sidney’s mother, Billy’s mother, Sidney’s half-brother’s lack of a mother) and finally Sidney will be facing her worst threat yet while trying to rescue the closest person to her heart..her daughter. The first scene in the 4th film has been said to involve a babysitter watching a girl and being hunted by the new killer, and the parents coming home just in time to save their daughter. The mother being revealed as Sidney herself. The film will take place in a gated community in southern California, with the new killer hunting down Sidney’s family and her surrounding housewife/family neighbors. Gale and Dewey have obviously married but are sticking to the ‘motherhood’ theme as well…they are having a tremendous struggle bearing children. Gale has fears that she is barren, and attaches herself to Sidney’s young daughter strongly because of this. *SPOILERS* The killer is also being talked about as a mother herself. Yes a woman! In the beginning there is a flashback scene involving Sidney in a nasty car accident while she was pregnant and she has recurring dreams about this as it was the biggest threat against her then unborn daughter. At the end of the film, the killer is revealed to be one of the housewife neighbors that is one of the many new characters that are introduced in the film. This ‘housewife’ has been carefully planning her attack ever since Sidney hit HER in the car accident. She was pregnant as well..and the crash killed her unborn child. Unable to conceive as a result of this, she makes it her vendetta to take from Sidney what she rightfully deserves. A daughter of her very own.
