Script Review Of Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Predators’ Reveals All Kinds Of Juicy Details; Our Dream Cast Shared!
  |  @   |

Latino Review worked that magic that only they know how to work and got hold of a draft of producer Robert Rodriguez‘s Predators script. With this script comes a reveal of full details of the movie, including characters, setting, premise, and possible rumor confirmation. The draft that was read is dated July of 2009, so it has to be the working draft, or at least severely close to it. Be sure to head over to the source site for their great video with all of the details.

The tricky thing in all of this is that it’s through Fox, but the studio does seem bent on making up for the unspeakable Alien vs. Predator disaster pieces. From this script review, we learn one very important detail: it’s built as an ultra-violent, hard R-rated movie, as it should be. If Fox allows director Nimród Antal and Rodriguez to let it all fly free and doesn’t try and impose on them to tone it down for a broader audience, we could be in for quite a treat.

Click over to the other side for story details and a run down of the characters with our Christmas wish list of actors to fill the roles! There will be small spoilers of how the film will set up, so if you don’t enjoy knowing anything, avert your eyes.

As for story, it takes place mainly on the Predator planet that we’re already aware of. It will be similar looking to the setting of the first Predator movie, covered in thick and dangerous jungle. The movie will begin with one of the creatures on Earth, closely watching the main character (said to be a Steve McQueen type) chase someone down and kill them. This person is then taken by the Predator, and brought to his home world where he meets a group of other humans that were brought there in the same fashion. Basically, the Predators have been bringing humans to their world for many, many years — the very best hunters and killers of our own race — to hunt in what seems like a never ending challenge for the aliens to test and perfect their skills.

The group of humans that are kidnapped and brought to the planet are where the movie really gets fun. It’s a lineup of veritable video game bosses who all possess their very own dangerous skills. The question is: who’s good enough to survive?

Here’s a list of the characters and who they are. We know one actor who has been cast, which means the rest are still open, and we can cast them in our own little fantasy world! The main character will obviously be the big name they bring in and your guess is as good as ours. The aforementioned Steve McQueen-like character won’t be the biggest or strongest, but they’ll likely be the smartest and most-capable of survival. It sounds like they want more of a Bruce Willis action star instead of the bulky Arnold Schwarzenegger type star. Many could be looked over for this role, three names crossed my mind that would be great: Viggo Mortensen is one, and the other two opposed each other in No Country for Old Men: Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem.

Cuchillo: A Mexican enforcer for a drug cartel who totes dual Uzis. — This is the role that Danny Trejo has been cast in, as was reported yesterday.

Nikolai: A huge Russian man which an equally large gas-powered machine gun. — With all of the talk of Mickey Rourke in Iron Man 2, some may pull for him getting the role, though Iron Man comes out only a few months before Predators is set to on July 7, 2010. Me, I’d like to see someone like Ray Winstone, Brendan Gleeson, or Ray Stevenson in the role — if any of them can swing the Russian accent, of course.

Isabelle: The resident femme fatale, she speaks French and is surgical with a sniper rifle. — This one is a pick your poison part. There are plenty of hot, young actresses who would look the part, but who could throw down a believable French accent? My vote is for either Clémence Poésy or maybe even seeing the usually distinguished Audrey Tautou having a little fun in her career.

Stans: A prisoner from San Quentin who fits the profile of your lovable local White Supremacist who is apparently only armed with a prison-made shiv. — This character doesn’t sound like he’ll last very long and you could choose any actor with a mean scowl to play the part. I think either Michael Shannon or Tommy Flanagan.

Mombasa: An African member of the Sierra Leone Death Squad. — For me, this is the easiest casting of the bunch. Get me Mr. Eko! (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje)

Hanzo: A Japanese Yakuza enforcer who’s likely to be wielding a sweet Katana sword (or, in a perfect world, the shiny steel of a Hattori Hanzo blade…as the name might indicate). — With Rodriguez’s connection to Quentin Tarantino, I’m sure there’s some good names up for this role. I could see Kill Bill’s Gordon Liu fitting well, but preference would lead me to hoping for Hiroyuki Sanada to get the part.

Edwin: Formerly on the FBI’s Most Wanted list, he’s a small man who doesn’t appear to be dangerous at all. — When you think of small men who can be a real bad ass, it’s really difficult not to jump right to Jackie Earle Haley, who nailed his portrayal of Rorschach in Watchmen, and is gearing up to show us his best Freddy Krueger in the new A Nightmare on Elm Street. Other great options would be Leland Orser or maybe even Dexter’s Michael C. Hall.

There’s also confirmation that there is a special cameo cut out for Schwarzenegger, but that’s a long shot, of course. This was fully expected, but it’s good to have confirmation.

I’m already completely sold on this movies and can’t wait to see what it looks like; are you sold yet, or still skeptical? Who would YOU like to see in some of these roles now that you have character descriptions?

Let us know!

  1. Oh boy, do I want to like this. I really, really want to think all of this is a good idea. And I am going to have faith. Because I love Predator. But it sounds like frickin Smash TV or something.

  2. Originally when I read this I envisioned Jackie Earle Haley as Stans the white supremacist. I could see him in Edwin role but I think like the description said, get someone milquetoast like Michael C Hall, works so well as Dexter.
I see someone has rewatched the original Predator and, like Aliens, discovered that writing rich character roles for an ensemble cast works best. Sounds like it holds some promise and with RR overseeing it I hold out some hope that it won’t suck.

  3. For the Isabelle character, I’d go for Tori Higginson.. She’s definitely got the eyes and demeanor and being Canadian, should be able to do the French thing..

  4. this has got to be the dumbest things i have ever heard. Rodriguez should be severely for this the project will certainly fail at the box office.

  5. This is without a doubt the most uninspired thing I’ve seen in years. To think that some studio exec tied tens of millions of dollars to this script is just…amazing. As a matter of fact maybe I could interest him in some of my nephew’s finger paintings.

  6. […] close to Rodriguez’s heart, as he wrote the script back in the 90s! We’ve gotten various plot and casting details over the past year, and recently caught a glimpse of some on-set imagery courtesy of […]
