MP3 Deal: Van Halen’s ‘1984’
space
Empress Eve   |  @   |

van halen 1984Are you one of those people that only know Van Halen by their hits “Jump” and “Panama”?

Well then you’re in luck, because the MP3 album deal of the day over at Amazon today is the Van Halen album with said hits, 1984, for only $2.99.

The album, released in the year 1984, was the band’s final effort with charismatic frontman, singer David Lee Roth and also spawned the chart-topping “Hot For Teacher” and its subsequent popular music video (watch the video here below, it’s awesome).

Ok, here’s where I do the math for you: 1) You’d only be parting with $3, a steal for such a great rock record; 2) for said three bucks you get 8 songs, so it’s well below the usual 99 cents per song price; and 3) getting the three aforementioned hits together is worth the three bucks right there, so there’s really no better time than now to grab this album while it’s on sale (for a limited time only).

How the Wizard of Oz Should Have Ended

The gang over at How It Should Have Ended strikes again, this time targeting the beloved classic The Wizard of Oz.

In the original 1939 film, Kansas girl Dorothy is transported along with her little dog Toto to Munchkinland in the magical land of Oz. After being threatened by the Wicked Witch of the West, the good witch Glinda sets Dorothy off on a journey to follow the Yellow Brick Road to Emerald City to meet the Wizard who will help get the lost girl home.

As we know, Dorothy meets new friends on her arduous journey, but also is in constant danger from the Wicked Witch. As the How Should Have Ended guys point out, it’s a lot for Dorothy to go through and the motives of the “good characters” are somewhat questionable.

Watch the two-minute animated video here below of how The Wizard of Oz should have ended.

The Movie God   |  @   |

sherlock holmes london

Sherlock HolmesWe’ve read and seen many things for Guy Ritchie‘s upcoming new vision of Sherlock Holmes, which is finally preparing to be released tomorrow on Christmas Day. To celebrate the release of this new movie as well as the history of the cherished Arthur Conan Doyle character itself, Londonist went above and beyond the above and beyond to bring us a very cool new look at the actual locations within the world surrounding Holmes: London. The beloved England city is as much a character of the Sherlock Holmes mythology as Watson is, and now you can visit the places and general locations that the crime solving duo visit with this detailed mapping. Head on over to the website to check out their handy work!

The impressive thing about this interactive map is that they didn’t half-ass it at all; the website went ahead and re-read all of the old Sherlock Holmes stories and put together all of the locations to map out. It comes handy with a key that specifies precise locations, general locations, actual Holmes-related locations, and paths that were traveled. No word yet on how many of these locations will be featured in this latest Sherlock Holmes adventure.

Deal: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
space
Empress Eve   |  @   |

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2The Gold Box spotlight deal of the day over at Amazon today is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for Xbox 360, PS3, or PC for only $39.99 each (that’s 33% off the list price of $59.99).

This sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare sold almost 5 million copies in its first day of release back in November, so chances are, most of you who wanted it already own it, but if you were holding out for a sale — the day is here! But, this sale is only for today while supplies last, so grab it while you can before it sells out.

From what I’ve been told, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 combines a thrilling single player story with some very fine cooperative segments to make one of the best multiplayer games ever. This sequel takes place five years after the original Modern Warfare (all other Call of Duty games take place in a World War II setting), and sees you filling the shoes of multiple different characters as they fight in battles all over the world.
