Geronimo! – First ‘Doctor Who’ Season 5 Trailer Is Up
  |

The trailer for the fifth season of Doctor Who is online and features the first (technically second) glimpse into what the future holds for the Eleventh Doctor played by 26-year-old actor Matt Smith.

While there are flashes of Daleks, the most notable thing from the trailer may be the “Weeping Angels” from the popular episode “Blink,” which was written by Steven Moffat who is now the Doctor Who showrunner taking over from Russell T. Davies.

I know this isn’t the Doctor we’ve all known and loved for the past four years. But Matt Smith isn’t replacing him any more than a new puppy would be replacing a dearly departed family dog. Honestly, if you can look beyond the tweed jacket and bow tie, No. 11 seems to fill out the role quite nicely.

Give it a watch and let us know what you think of The Doctor’s new catchphrase…

  1. Matt Smith seems to be a promising new Doctor. I loved the catchphrase he used,”Geronimo!” It is a phrase I used growing up as a child in the late 50s and early 60s.

  4. geronimo means like cannonball or alright time to dive into the action or like when someone that does a cannonball into the water they might yell cannonball or in some cases geronimo it’s more commonly used by people that go skydiving they jump and yell that i’m 16 and i love though show and unlike my mom i understand every part of it and i’m american live in U.S and love the show better than any other show on earth it’s brilliant i watch it so much even repeats of it that i’ve got a British accent and i even use british words in common speech without meaning to it’s become almost natural

  5. I think that so many of us loved David Tennant in this role that we’re too easy to judge Matt Smith. I will try to give him a chance, I really will.

“Geranimo” is technically a purely American idiom—it refers back to the Ameircan Indian Chief by the same name. He was a fearless leader, and when he died, his name was used as a battle cry going into battle against the soldiers. Similar to the cry of “Remember the Alamo”. In current times it is used any time someone does a fearless tho potentially terminally stupid act like jumping off a building or out of a plane—or making a cannonball into a swimming pool.

    Hope that helps…..

  7. I vaguely remembered that ‘Geronimo’ was associated with World War II United States paratroopers. Used by them as they jumped out of their planes.

Quick search found this site that gives a possible origin to use of the term : http://www.b-westerns.com/geronimo.htm .

  8. He fired a gun… The Doctor hates guns… :/

Other than that, exciting trailer! I’m looking forward to seeing how Matt Smith does. Also hoping they find a creative way to bring the Darleks back… Again. Can they ever be defeated? lol.

    I loved the end bit:
    “Trust me. I’m a Doctor.”

I’ll miss David Tennant though… But I am sure Smith will be just as good. I said the same about Tennant when he took over Christopher Eccleston, so I guess you never know. :)

  9. Let us also remmeber that the Doctor used a gun in the last chapter of “The End of Time” but not for killing. However Matt might be more of a fighter like Pertwee. The clip shows him punching a guy and he act wildly which is a nice change of pace.
