Last month, Latino Review received a scoop that casting for the female lead in the Green Lantern movie had come down to five actresses, and those names were Eva Green, Kerri Russell, Diane Kruger, Blake Lively, and Jennifer Garner. At first glance, Miss Lively would have probably been considered the underdog of the bunch, but it is now being reported that the Gossip Girl star has in fact been cast in the role of Carol Ferris, officially landing her the biggest role of her career and her first chance to really break out as a star. Up to this point, Lively had done work in shows and movies that had young female demographics, so if she nails this, you will be seeing a whole lot more of her in the future.
Ferris becomes the love interest of Hal Jordan after hiring the pilot to work at her father’s aerospace company, which she runs. As we know, Ryan Reynoldswill be playing the role of Hal Jordan, who eventually goes on to become the Green Lantern, one of an elite few who wield a special power ring that gives them unique abilities. This of course is the DC Comics adventure that Reynolds is running parallel to his Marvel adventure with Deadpool.
In the comics, Lively’s character acquires some special powers of her own by an alien race, so if Green Lantern becomes a successful franchise, you can already look forward that storyline being played out on the big screen.
While Lively is perhaps best recognized from her work on Gossip Girl, she has also appeared in both Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies, Accepted, and New York, I Love You.
Green Lantern is planning to begin filming in March with a June 17, 2011 release date currently marked off.
What happened to Seth Rogen moving onto Green Lantern…that was the last I had heard…weird!

Seth Rogen will be the Green Hornet. Green Lantern gets his power from a ring. Green hornet rides in a limo and his driver is his sidekick. I think she will ruin this movie.
