Product tie-ins for Disney’s upcoming Alice In Wonderland film appear to be going the high-end route with designer jewelry by Tom Binns and Stella McCartney, as well as designer dresses by Sue Wong.
Even Swarovski crystal is getting in on the act, launching their Underland collection next month, which will feature 17 jewelry pieces selling for $80 to $150. The pieces — which will consist of pendants, necklaces, rings and earrings — will portray iconic Alice in Wonderland imagery, like cups, saucers, teapots, keys, talking flowers, and the ever-popular Cheshire Cat. (The collection will be sold at Swarovski stores, online, and select department stores).
I searched around, but haven’t found any images for the “Underland” collection, which of all things, is what I’m excited about (I have quite the little Swarovski collection myself).
The Sue Wong dresses are definitely beautiful, so if you’re an Alice In Wonderland fan in the market for a new dress and have an extra $329 to $609 (what they’ll retail for) to spare, Wong’s collection for Walt Disney Signature is the way to go (the dresses will be available in major department stores and online next month).
I found Stella McCartney’s necklace and bracelet, with its charms shaped like the Mad Hatter’s hat, a rabbit, spades, clubs, hearts and diamonds, a bit gaudy (see images pictured above). And with a price tag in the $400 range, I’ll definitely be skipping these. The charms are strung with pearl baubles and Swarovski crystals on a chain that’s apparently like that used on the Falabella bag, if that means anything to you fashionistas out there (I’m definitely not the target audience for this one). These items will be available starting next month at Stella McCartney boutiques. (And by the way, if you’re going to go designer, my endorsement goes to Stella McCartney, who has created a lot animal-free fashions.)
Disney’s live-action Alice In Wonderland, directed by Tim Burton, arrives in theaters on March 5, 2010, and finds a now 19-year-old Alice (Mia Wasikowska) falling once again down the rabbit hole, where she’s reacquainted with The Mad Hater (Johnny Depp) and the other familiar Wonderland inhabitants.
