Zac Efron Set To Heat Up Brian Michael Bendis’ ‘Fire’

Brian Michael Bendis is on “fire.”

He’s currently anchoring the Marvel universe, writing everything from big events like Secret Invasion and Siege to ongoing goodness like Ultimate Spider-Man and EVERY Avengers book known to man. He’s got a TV adaptation of Powers in the works at FX and he’s also working with Universal on a Jinx movie.

Bendis is again set to work with Universal on the film version of Fire, his 2001 graphic novel from Image. My favorite heartthrob Zac Efron is set to star and executive produce the film with his manager, Jason Barrett. Bendis is also on board to write the adaptation.

The product description from the Fire graphic novel reads…

Your government does not want you to read this book! Imagine that you are a shy, quiet college student. Just an average guy trying to get through each day as best he can. Then your government contacts you. They want you to be part of an experiment in the art of human covert operations. Instead of creating an agent from someone within their own ranks, they want to create an agent from nobody–from scratch- you! Loosely based on events in the American intelligence community during the Reagan administration, FIRE tells the unique and powerful story of a young man’s journey through the complex world of international intelligence. Fire was Bendis’ first major work and helped him attract and develop a new audience for crime graphic novels that he would further challenge in later works such as Jinx, Goldfish, Torso, and Powers.

Bendis recently shared this nugget on twitter, “Yes, my daughter knows I know Zac Efron. It took some explaining. She thought there was a party going on that she isn’t invited to.”

As with anything Bendis touches, I will be consuming this. The question is, ‘will the material be adapted appropriately to the new medium?’
