Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It: Make Betty White An SNL Host!
  |  @   |

Another movement has begun, and it is a matter of life and death, people.

The fans have decided that Betty White, star of The Golden Girls and universally awesome grandmother to us all, needs to be allowed to host Saturday Night Live. The movement started on Facebook, where almost 200,000 fans have joined the Betty White to Host SNL page in an attempt to grab the attention of executives at NBC,and persuade them to bring her in immediately.

SNL still has a faithful fan-base, but has not been getting laughs like they used to. It could be the writers; it could be the current cast, but for some reason, that strong level of funny has been completely M.I.A. The studio hasn’t had the most support lately, either; after the Conan O’Brien/Tonight Show fiasco, this would also be a chance for them to win some fans back. Does this really require any amount of thought, NBC!?

White is now 88-years-old, and has been performing for audiences since the early ’40s when she first showed up in Time To Kill, the 1945 movie starring George Reeves and DeForest Kelley. In the ’50s, she appeared in Oldsmobile commercials during the 26th–TWENTY SIXTH–Academy Awards ceremony. In case you’re not aware, the 82nd Awards will be handed out on March 7. Since her run on The Golden Girls, White has remained nice and busy, but it wasn’t until 1999’s Lake Placid that we (I, at least; she may have been doing it long before that) got a glimpse at sarcastic and hilariously adult side of her. Since then she’s done memorable voice acting parts on the show Family Guy (Peterotica, as read by Betty White), made our jaw drops with incredibly crude and laugh-out-loud funny zingers at The Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner, and even played a little football in a popular Super Bowl commercial this past weekend.

What might be even more shocking, is that Betty White has more appearances as herself (162), than she does as an actress (91) — from game shows to talk shows to awards ceremonies.. And to my knowledge, she’s never once been on Saturday Night Live. Very strange.

To be quite honest, this one of the most random movements I’ve ever seen unfold. Hell, it might be getting more momentum than our futile attempts at trying to get Sam Rockwell his much-deserved Oscar nomination for Moon. None the less, I like the idea, so someone at NBC needs to be the hero and make this thing go down!
