If you’re on Twitter, then chances are you’re already familiar with the Shit My Dad Says account, where a young man named Justin Halpern does nothing but tweet the unintentionally humorous stuff his 74-year-old father spouts.
The account has made the 29-year-old son an Internet star, and now CBS is set to do a TV pilot based on the Twitter account with none other than William Shatner as the titular dad.
Will & Grace creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick will executive produce the pilot, which was greenlit by the network thanks to Shatner’s casting. Halpern co-penned the script with Patrick Schumacker.
Not surprisingly, if the pilot gets picked up for a full series, then the Shit My Dad Says title will be changed.
Unless the script is terrible, I can’t see how this pilot won’t be picked up for a full series, especially with the perfect casting of Shatner, himself a 78-year-old dad known so well for the “shit” he says (and how he says it). I say put this right in the Monday night line-up with How I Met Your Mother.
