UPDATED! ‘Wanted 2’ Killed Off After Angelina Jolie Walks Away To Star In Alfonso Cuarón’s ‘Gravity’
  |  @   |

UPDATE: Entertainment Weekly has a follow-up to this story. Jolie’s people have revealed that she has also passed on Gravity as well and that WB still hasn’t even confirmed whether that movie is set up with them. Could be all smoke and mirrors, but that’s the update!

Many people have expected a sequel to Timur Bekmambetov‘s assassin-fest, Wanted, for a while now, but sadly, it looks as though this will not be happening.

Vulture is reporting that star Angelina Jolie has decided to walk away from Wanted 2 in order to do another film called Gravity, which is directed by the great Alfonso Cuarón. Jolie was attached to star in both films for Universal, but they decided to drop Gravity, which was then picked up by Warner Brothers. This is where Jolie, clearly looking for the more challenging, awards-possible role, followed it and left Wanted 2 in the dust and Universal deciding to scrap the project completely.

This may anger fans of Wanted who really hoped to see a sequel, but in all honestly, if you have to choose between the two just knowing the basic premise and the director, it’s a crystal clear decision to make.

Gravity sounds a lot like Duncan Jones’ highly-praised indie film, Moon, with Jolie in the Sam Rockwell role. She would be playing the last remaining survivor of a space mission gone wrong (clearly) who is fighting to somehow get home to her daughter.

–WARNING: SPOILER AHEAD–

Oh, and on top of all of this, how in the sweet, sweet hell were they even planning on doing a Wanted sequel with Jolie, and why is this crucial? They could have done a prequel, naturally, but grab James McAvoy again and stick to how the last film ended and you’ll make plenty of money to be worth it. All of this is very strange.

I personally was pretty let down by Wanted. Twas fun enough, sure, but just way too much wacky-silly-crazy for my own tastes.
