‘1408’ Scribe Hired To Write ‘Pet Sematary’ Remake For Paramount
  |  @   |

It’s been a while since it was reported that a remake was in the works for the 1989 horror film Pet Sematary. Now it looks as if this wasn’t some sick joke, but the honest-to-gods truth. The first movie was of course adapted from Stephen King‘s 1983 book of the same name.

Paramount Pictures has hired Matthew Greenberg to write the screenplay for the remake. Greenberg handled the writing duties for another King adaptation in 2007’s John Cusack thriller, 1408. Before that, he also wrote The Prophecy II, Halloween H20, and Reign of Fire.

The story revolves around a big city family who move to the quiet countryside of Maine. One day while having a fun family picnic, their very young son Gage wanders off and is hit by one of the 18-wheelers that are known to drive by at high speeds. One day, the boy’s father Louis, unable to handle the grief, brings his son’s lifeless body to a nearby Micmac cemetery he was shown. Legend has it that anything buried there would somehow be brought back to life, and at this point, anything was worth a try. Unfortunately, there are negative effects to the process, and whatever dead body is buried there, comes back with an purely evil soul possessing it.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Steven Schneider are producing the film, with Mark Vahradian and David Ready overseeing for Di Bonaventura Pictures.

  1. This movie scared the crap out of me when I was 9. I think it has the possibility to be remade and updated well. Let’s hope they do it right!
