New ‘Futurama’ Set To Officially Debut On Comedy Central In June!

Comedy Central has confirmed what we’ve all been waiting to hear: Futurama will officially be back on your TV sets on June 24 of this year!

To catch everyone lost in the dark up: back in 2003, 20th Century Fox was silly and canceled a little show called Futurama way before it should have been canceled…as they have been known to do on occasion. Since the show was killed off, its fans have continued to scrape and claw any way that they could in order to try and convince someone to bring the show back. At first these efforts seemed futile, but after another Fox show, Family Guy, proved that it can be done, these pleas have consistently grown stronger and stronger.

Fans of Futurama were convincing enough to persuade the studio into giving the animated sci-fi series one more shot in the form of four straight-to-DVD movies. Bender’s Big Score, The Beast with a Billion Backs, Bender’s Game, and Into the Wild Green Yonder eventually were born and released into the world; and to our pure elation, they did just well enough to force those Suits into a few meetings that lead to the decision to give the show one 26-episode season.

A little entertainment tragedy did strike along the way, when we were informed that the network was not meeting the pay demands of the fantastic voice actors involved with the show — Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal, and others — and that casting calls had gone out to replace them all. This could have been the most devastating thing to happen in television history, but luckily for us, this crisis was averted, and all of our cartoon friends were signed on.

Nothing was stopping it now!

The only thing that was left after all of that was to be told when we (and I do mean ALL of us; I want record-breaking numbers to ensure 20 more seasons!) needed to be in front of our TVs. We recently heard from Phil LaMarr, who claimed the new episodes were the very best yet, but that he wasn’t exactly sure whether they would start this Summer or perhaps the Fall.

Did I just tell a story? I do believe I did. Anyone still awake?

Anyway — that’s where we stand now! As said, the new episodes will begin on June 24, 2010 and they will air on Comedy Central at 10PM EST. If you’ll recall, Fox does have the option to air the new episodes themselves, but they want to start on Comedy Central and see what the numbers look like before moving forward.

Once again: make sure that you all watch. The only thing left for us to do now is put up big numbers for the cast and creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen in hopes of many more new seasons to come. If the show fails this time, we will never see it again!
