John Forsythe, who’s best known as Blake Carrington on the popular ’80s television series Dynasty, has passed away at the age of 92. Forsythe had been diagnosed with colon cancer within the past year, but recently fell ill and died from complications from pneumonia.
Forsythe appeared in an incredible 217 episodes of Dynasty, which ran from 1981 to 1989 and starred Linda Evans, Joan Collins, and Heather Locklear. He was also starred on another popular show from 1976 to 1981, appearing in 109 episodes of Charlie’s Angels as Charles Townsend. The interesting thing about that role was that every single one of those episodes were “uncredited” due to the fact that he was only a voice. But when you’re THE Charlie from Charlie’s Angels — even if just vocally — you can’t deny the iconic status.
John Forsythe had a career that began in the ’40s and spanned 60 years and almost 100 film and TV titles. Most of the work that he did was on the small screen, but he appeared in plenty of films as well, like 1967’s In Cold Blood, Silent Treatment, and The Happy Ending.
Other less-recognizable television runs that Forsythe was a part of included The John Forsythe Show from 1965 to 1966 and To Rome With Love from 1969 to 1971. The last two things he did were both of the recent Charlie’s Angels movie adaptations, where he reprised his role as Charlie.
