George Lucas & ‘Robot Chicken’ Team To Deliver New Animated ‘Star Wars’ Series
  |  @   |

Robot Chicken and Family Guy were both given a special blessing by George Lucas himself to create special episodes of their show that would spoof the classic Star Wars saga of films. So far, everything we’ve seen of these specials (with at least the third spoof from Family Guy expected) has been hilarious, and it’s clear that when done right, Star Wars spoofs can go on for ever and ever and ever.

The folks over at LucasFilm have come to this realization, and according to reports, have entered into a new deal with Robot Chicken creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich to become creative talents involved in a new comedic animated Star Wars series. Brendan Hay, who writes for The Daily Show, is one of the names brought in to work on the series, and Todd Grimes will be a director. Jennifer Hill (The Backyardians) will be a producer.

The show doesn’t have a set network to air on yet, and this is where some questions arise. It’s great that Green and Senreich will be involved creatively, and Hay is obviously a comedic talent. But director Grimes has only done one thing in that area of filmmaking before, and that was on Back at the Barnyard, an animated series based on the animated film Barnyard, where he worked as a Character Modeling Supervisor. Will this show be more like Robot Chicken, or will it be lighter, less offensive comedy? Will it be stop motion, CGI, or more along the cartoon lines? There’s still a lot to be seen here.

A live-action Star Wars series has been talked about for a long time, and that’s what most fans are waiting to see. With rumors of it ending up on a channel like HBO and being compared to something like The Sopranos in space, how could fans not drool at the thought. That will remain being what people are itching to see, but this is absolutely something worth keeping an eye on.

  3. I would rather see the live action television show. It seems fun, interesting, and would fill in the narrative gaps left between Episode III and IV.

This new comedy show seems fun, but Star Wars has been spoofed so many times over the decades, I’m not sure how this will set it apart from everything that had already been done.
