French Artist Builds Actual Working ‘Back To The Future’ Hoverboard
  |  @   |

If you’re someone who grew up during the ’80s, then there’s no doubt that you wanted nothing more than to get your hands on your very own working hoverboard from Back to the Future II, just like Marty McFly used. Sadly, much like mini instant-pizza machines, this was a dream that would never come true.

While a fully-functioning hoverboard is still pretty impossible — or at least a long, long ways off — that’s not stopping one young French artist named Nils Guadagnin from getting the ball rolling. The artist created a perfect replica of one of the floating boards, and yes, it actually hovers a few inches off the platform is rests on.

To the DeLorean! Click on over to the future and see the video of this working hoverboard now!

Now, you’ve likely seen office desk decor with small floating balls and such, and this is basically the same idea on a much more complex level. The board uses an electromagnetic system to help it to hover, and it also has a laser system which keeps it stable and in place.

I can’t even explain how much I would give to have this in my house as decoration. It would be the ultimate movie collectible. Someone, ANYONE (ThinkGeek?!), needs to find a way to make these bad boys and produce them for the masses.

  1. I hate to burst your bubble , but umm well.. It is not real. You fell for it. Big old hoax. Welcome to 2010 and the internet and awesome camera effects.

  2. Actually, not much of a trick. If you could stand on it and at least pretend you were sailing through the streets, maybe combined with some virtual reality goggles, then it would be something cool. AS it is, it’s not even interesting after the first ten seconds.

  3. someone – Camera effects? No. It’s already been publicized that his hoverboard uses magnets. Why do you think he didn’t put it on the ground and try to stand on it?
