For those who are not aware, Brian K. Vaughan is one of the best minds out there when it comes to comic books and graphic novels. Vaughan was also a writer on the hit show Lost during seasons three through five (arguably some of the best seasons) and has some original screenplays in development, meaning he could be one of the best overall writers on the planet before too long.
Of Vaughan’s many brilliant titles, two of them have had movie adaptations in development. His Y: The Last Man has been in the news quite often, though the movie struggles to survive in development hell, leading many to wonder if we’ll ever get to see it. The other one is an adaptation of Runaways, where a group of teens and kids discover that their parents are part of an evil organization known as the Pride. The kids eventually realize that they too share their their parents’ special abilities, which they use to rise up against their parents and the unspeakable acts that they’ve committed.
For a while it was unclear where that movie stood, but now it appears to be moving forward with the hiring of Drew Pearce to write the screenplay.
Pearce is fairly unknown, but what he has done seems to make him a solid choice for the job. He’s the creator and writer of the popular U.K. show, No Heroics, which takes place in a bar where superheroes aren’t allowed to use their powers. A trailer for that show can be found at the link below, and you should check it out!
Pearce joins director Pete Sollett on the movie. Sollett directed Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and wrote and directed Raising Victor Vargas.
