In Geoff Johns‘ most recent post on DC’s The Source Blog, in which he reveals the photos of the live-action Blue Beetle test footage, Johns also talked about the upcoming Young Justice project and the debut of an all new Aqualad. He reveals that not only will this new Aqualad, who will be named Jackson Hyde, be a main character in the upcoming television show, but he will also play a large role in the current Brightest Day title.
If that is not enough information for you, then how about we talk specifics. Johns also revealed that the Aqualad character will be introduced in the Mera and Aquaman storyline in issue #4 and will “come into his own” in issue #10. Both of those issues are a good set up for the show considering they are going to be released before the show hits the airwaves. The best way to understand what kind of character Jackson is is to quote John’s, and here is how he describes the all new Aqualad:
Jackson has kept this secret hidden for years, lying to his girlfriend about being afraid of drowning, being unable to swim and being in the dark about the mysterious tattoos he’s had since birth. He’s done his best to avoid it. But soon something’s going to force him out into the open and dive into the water.
Just in case that doesn’t wet your whistle enough the Young Justice line up will also include Robin, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian, and Artemis. Not only will these characters be saving the world on a tube near you, but Johns also mentions that there will be more DC characters than we could possibly imagine appearing on the show as well. I don’t know about all the other comic fans out there, but I can imagine a lot so hopefully the build up is justified because I definitely can’t wait to see this show and hope that it helps more and more people jump into comics with all of the rest of us.
I totally agree with you and I’m 100% behind the new Aqualad and what Geoff Johns is doing with Brightest Day Saga. So Far….
