REMINDER! New Episodes Of ‘Futurama’ Start On Comedy Central TONIGHT!
  |  @   |

It’s here! The brand new episodes of Futurama we’ve been begging and pleading to get for years now are finally set to begin at 10pm tonight on Comedy Central! In all honesty, it strangely still feels like we have a lot longer to wait, but the excitement has been building this week knowing the time has arrived.

This post is in an attempt to do two things. One: to remind you that the show is back, and begins tonight…just in case you had forgotten. Two: to make sure that every single one of you who has even the slightest bit of love for Futurama puts every TV you can on at 10pm! Tonight brings not one, but two new episodes, and the more viewers that they get for each episode, the better chance we have at getting more than just this one new season. The goal wasn’t just to get this show back, but to get it back for a long, long time, much like we saw with Family Guy. If you have DVR, set every new episode to record, even if you’re watching as it airs. Do what needs to be done!

If you’re not familiar with the story, allow me to catch you up to speed. Futurama ran for four seasons from 1999 to 2003 before it was indirectly canceled. The end was never official, but right before the show’s demise episodes basically were just aired whenever and wherever Fox wanted to air them. This sporadic mishandling of the show destroyed its numbers, and saw it slowly disappear forever…or so it looked.

Over time the show’s faithful stayed faithful, and many new fans kept realizing how brilliant it was. Before long, Futurama was grabbing impressive numbers when aired on Cartoon Network, and Fox noticed the continued support. A decision was made to produce and distribute a fifth season consisting of four straight-to-DVD movies — Bender’s Big Score, The Beast with a Billion Backs, Bender’s Game, and Into the Wild Green Yonder — and see how they did.

The movies didn’t blow away all fans and critics, but they did their job. Not long after that, it was reported that an order for 26 new episodes had been made and that Comedy Central would be airing them. The great news didn’t last long, however, as we soon found out that there was a big salary dispute going on between Fox and voice actors Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio, Phil LaMarr, Maurice LaMarche, and Lauren Tom. This is one of the best voice acting groups of all-time, so as you can imagine, the news that Fox had sent out a casting call to replace them all was not sitting well.

After all the dust settled and the cast and studio came to agreements on the salary dispute, all we had to do was wait for what seemed like an unbearable year. But in case you’ve forgotten what this whole post was about (you should get that checked out), the wait is already over and Futurama returns TONIGHT.

That’s that, folks. Again, make sure you all watch tonight! It’s on us and only us to not only enjoy these new 26 episodes, but give Fox and Comedy Central all the numbers they want to keep ordering new episodes for many years to come.

Long live Hypnotoad!
