‘Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs’ Directors To Deliver LEGO Movie
  |  @   |

Warner Brothers has chosen a duo to write and direct a new feature-length movie set around the universally popular building block toys, LEGO.

The studio has set Phil Lord and Chris Miller to handle the duties after they impressed both WB and LEGO — who has to approve all decisions to ensure that they’re name remains untarnished — with their pitch for the movie. One of the concerns was whether to make the movie an animated one or to go live-action with it. Considering how often it is done these days with current CGI and motion capture technologies, it would seem that the best bet would be to mix animations and live-action, and that’s exactly the pitch that was made by Lord and Miller.

The team recently scored a hit with the animated feature Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Aside from that, they have wrote a couple of episodes of How I Met Your Mother, and are currently set as the directors of the 21 Jump Street movie, if it ever gets made.

No details are known yet where they will go with a LEGO movie in terms of a storyline. Dan Lin and Roy Lee will be producing with LEGO’s Jill Wilfert executive producing.

  1. This spells bad idea. The only two feasible approaches I see are a Toy Story/Toy Soldiers kind of film (mixing the CGI with real life) or full on CGI, encompassing all the brands of LEGO men under one banner, much like LEGO Universe, the MMO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNwVIzaMN0A
