Is This What Joss Whedon’s Wonder Woman Would Have Looked Like?

There’s been a lot of controversy lately surrounding the new costume design for Wonder Woman, with many feeling that giving the iconic superhero pants really misses the mark.
Shawna Trpcic, a costume designer who worked on Joss Whedon shows like Firefly, Angel, Dr. Horrible’s Sing A-Long Blog, and Dollhouse, revealed designs for the superhero that she created for live-action Wonder Woman movie that Whedon was linked to in 2005, before leaving the project in 2007.
Trpcic took it upon herself to post four sketches of her costume designs for that Wonder Woman project to her Twitter account.
Her designs aren’t really similar to those of Jim Lee, who did the recent redesign for DC Comics, except for the part that people seem to be the most upset about — pants! (Of the four, two versions include pants.) Check out the images here below and let us know if you like Trpcic’s designs better than what we are getting now.
Would people have been more open to a costume redesign had it come from a Whedon Wonder Woman film? I vote nay. I wouldn’t care necessarily if Diana wore an updated costume in a movie, but I would not be happy if that same costume jumped into the comics. To me adaptations should not change the source material, but then again I’m just a geek.
This version of Wonder Woman is way too rail-thin. Wonder Woman was known for having very voluptuous features. She was an Amazon. This looks like something an anime version.
I don’t really take issue with Wonder Woman having pants. I do have an issue with them changing the costume without regard to the iconic appearance that’s been instilled into popular culture.
She’s an Amazonian Princess so I feel like she should be allowed to wear ridiculously sexy clothing while simultaneously being a badass.
And for fucks sake, I’m sick of hearing about the “it’s not practical to fight wearing that skimpy outfit”. Are you going to tell me capes should be banned as well? Because those would totally suck major ass to fight in.
I don’t mind ‘pants’ so much as I mind leggings! How non-badass. And I’ve already said 10 times I hate the jacket. Not that it’s ugly or anything, but it’s dated and impractical and again, wimpy looking. It looks like it’s going to come off a little and impede her when she’s fighting. And what does she NEED the jacket for? Is it really for warmth?
C’mon, I have a hard time believing she has been cold for decades and couldn’t figure out how to put on a jacket. In that case, Batman must be sweating in that cowl.
Her new outfit does not feel superhero enough, but I think these recently revealed designs from Shawna Trpcic are really cool looking. Again, it’s not about her legs being covered, it’s what they are being covered with! Of the four, I like the two on the left (one with the shirt; the other with the coat) – both are badass!
I agree with Empress Eve in that the current new one doesn’t make her seem like a superhero, and these actually do. I think I love the long jacket, especially with the idea that it could be removed to show the more iconic outfit beneath, and give freedom of movement.

Also, the Shawna Trpcic costume designs all pass the Iconic-Wonder-Woman test. Too bad Joss isn’t making the film.

But why would she want to?
In my been reading comics since 1973 point of view, it’s the character that’s iconic. Not her clothes, or to be more precise, lack of them.
