SDCC 2010: Sony Panel Shows Off ‘Priest,’ ‘The Other Guys’ & ‘Green Hornet’

Sony was present at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con, and though they didn’t show off anything exciting from their reboot of Spider-Man, they did bring plenty of goodies to present for Priest, The Good Guys, and The Green Hornet.

They began with the new adaptation of Tokyo Pop graphic novel, Priest. The movie stars Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Stephen Moyer, Karl Urban, and Maggie Q, who were all in attendance. The movie tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world that’s been devastated by centuries of war between humans and vampires. A priest (Bettany), who fought in the last big war, comes out of hiding to track down some vampires who kidnapped his niece.

The panel opened with a teaser trailer (which you can actually see below…though I’m not sure for how long). After that they go into some questions for the group. Basically just questions about what drew them to the film and and Bettany re-teaming with director Scott Stewart (Legion) and such.

Be sure to click over and check out the teaser while it still works!

They then moved on to some more footage — this time an ultra-violent animated segment that serves as a prologue for the film that gives the origins of the human/vampire wars — before opening up to some Q&A from the crowd. Because this was a Sony panel, they had the multiple movies to get to and not quite as much time to talk.

After that, they moved onto a movie you’ve likely seen plenty of marketing for on TV: The Other Guys. The movie stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as a couple of NYC detectives who aren’t quite the rock star cops they’d like to be. Ferrell and Wahlberg were joined on the panel by the lovely Eva Mendes and director Adam McKay.

This panel also opens with footage from the film, which is a mixture of scenes you’ll see and some that you’ll apparently have to wait until the DVD to check out. After that they move onto a bunch of questions. As you might suspect, wherever Will Ferrell is, silliness is somewhere close by and the majority of this panel was all about being goofy and laughing. Never a bad thing at Comic-Con.

The third and final movie from this Sony panel was the adaptation of The Green Hornet. This one has been coming for a long, long time and it’s good to see it finally really happening with the trailer that was released recently and the new stuff shown at Comic-Con.

Taking part in this panel was Seth Rogen, Christoph Waltz, director Michel Gondry, writer Evan Goldberg, and producer Neal Moritz.

Rogen started things off by setting up a new extended trailer. This is basically the trailer linked above with some new goodies added in. After that they again go into the group talking about the movie. Rogen was of course the star of the panel, talking about watching everything Hornet he could, and making sure as much of that old stuff was included without being stuffed in for no reason. He also talked about the challenge of making sure his sidekick Kato (Jay Chou) wasn’t looked at so much as a sidekick. He presented an example of old Green Hornet where the duo would run into a room, Britt Reid would say something funny, Kato would “kick the shit out of like 13 guys,” and Reid would say something else funny before they left.

They then start talking about doing the movie in 3D and how they wanted to really take their time with it so it wasn’t just another attempt to steal your money with an awful and unnecessary 3D layer. This sets up some more footage, this time in 3D. Let’s just say the 3D didn’t blow anyone away, but all-in-all, this looks like it could be a pretty entertaining new comic book movie.

After the footage the floor was opened to audience questions and that about wrapped up Sony’s panel!
