Another member has been added to the cast of Peter Berg‘s board game/alien invasion film, Battleship. The actor isn’t actually an actor or actress by trade at all, but a big time pop music superstar, and her name is Rihanna.
The job will mark Rihanna’s feature acting debut, and she joins previously cast talents Taylor Kitsch, who will play the lead role, and Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd, who will play his brother. The screenplay is written by Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber, and is currently aiming at a June 18, 2012 release date.
Battleship will follow a navy fleet who finds themselves having to deal with the invasion on an alien race who are seeking to mine Earth’s materials for use as energy resources. This was probably the last thing people expected to hear as a movie description for something based on the popular board game in which you blindly “fire” little plastic pegs in hopes of hitting your opponent’s ships, but hey, there’s only so much you can do with a Naval fleet these days.
Director Berg is has previously directed The Rundown and The Kingdom, as well as starred in movies like Corky Romano and Smokin’ Aces.
