SDCC 2010: DC Comic Panels Roundup

Unfortunately, there wasn’t a lot of big reveals from either DC or Marvel about their upcoming material that had not already been announced in some form or fashion. Therefore, I am just going to review what DC talked about throughout most of their panels at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con.

Two of my most anticipated books that were announced at the Con were Batman Incorporated by Grant Morrison and Flash Speedforce by Geoff Johns. I am super pumped by the descriptions of both of these books and I am already ready to add these books to my pull list. I definitely suggest that everyone keeps their eyes out for these. Also of note but not newly announced is the Batman Earth One by Geoff Johns about a Batman who fails at everything and his gadgets don’t work.

Well with Brightest Day being the biggest part of the DC Universe right now, there was definitely talk about what was coming up in the event and related to the event. One of the big things coming up is the fact that there are black lanterns returning but we don’t know how or why yet. Also related to the Geoff Johns universe of things there will be an upcoming Sinestro Origins graphic novel by Johns with art by the amazing Ivan Reis. Johns also talked about wanting to do some holiday specials including a Larfleeze Christmas Special and a Dex-Star Valentines Day special that may include Krypto in it in some way. There was also a reveal of an amazing Ganthet versus Cyborg Superman cover that just looks like it will be a badass fight with huge action.

Well with Nick Spencer announced a Jimmy Olsen back up in Action Comics we also got some pretty big news in relation to a Smallville original character making her first appearance in comics. That’s right Smallville fans, Chloe Sullivan will make her appearance in the Jimmy Olsen back up and there was even concept art shown for her, so it looks pretty good for Chloe thus far. Nick Spencer is also bringing back an old title, Thunder Agents, with two huge cover artists to start him off with Frank Quitely and Darwyn Cooke for the Variant.

The last three things I wanted to talk about are not really related that much, but I feel are worth talking about. Aaron Lopresti talked a little bit about an upcoming anthology monster book called Weird Worlds that will be starting early 2011. James Robinson actually talked about the upcoming issue 50 of J.L.A., which really pumped me up because this new team will now be facing the Crime Syndicate. I love this concept and I can’t wait to see how it fleshes out. Last but not least J.T. Krul talked a lot about the Teen Titans and how they will be working together and why he did what he has done so far and how he will be introducing a brand new character upcoming in the story.

Overall there was again not much huge news that was announced throughout these panels and most of it everyone already announced, but I just thought it would be good to hear a lot of what was discussed covered for you in one concise place. Let us know what you think of the upcoming stuff in DC in the comments section.
