‘Family Guy’ Creator Seth MacFarlane Signs Music Deal; Will Record Album Of ’40s & ’50s Broadway Songs
  |  @   |

If you’ve ever watched Family Guy, you know that creator Seth MacFarlane has a soft spot for a good Broadway tunes. Many episodes include classic covers or original songs performed in an old school style, usually will comedic elements mixed in.

Whether you love or hate Family Guy or MacFarlane’s other shows, American Dad and The Cleveland Show, there’s no denying that the man has tremendous vocal talents. He’s even branched out his talents to feature films with a role in Hellboy II. Because of this, it should come as no surprise that MacFarlane has signed a new music deal with Universal Republic Records.

The deal will see MacFarlane recording an album of his own renditions of Broadway classics from the 1940s and 1950s, including covers of Rogers and Hammerstein as well as Lerner and Loewe. And despite what you’re thinking, no, there will not be comedy involved in the album — these will be serious covers of beloved showtunes.

Here’s what MacFarlane had to saw about the deal:

It’s rare in this day and age to have the opportunity to create an album that celebrates the classic, sophisticated sound of rich, lush swing orchestrations. It will be an absolute joy to sing this music, and I look forward to working with the entire team at Universal Republic on what we intend to make an exceptional project.

MacFarlane has received an Emmy nomination for the music created for his shows, and this new album will be produced using vintage techniques as well as a big band and full orchestra set to back him up.

No word yet on when recording will take place or when we might see a release.

  2. I love Seth’s voice, and his appearance at The Royal Albert Hall in 2009 was awesome. So glad he’s making the album of old standards…can’t wait to buy it!
