We reported a while back that Dragon Age II is coming. Today we have the first trailer. Now the trailer is very good looking, however, it is not game play, and you know my thoughts on giving judgment on a game’s look before I see game play.
My biggest gripe so far about this game is it’s name. Dragon Age II seems to have nothing to do with Dragon Age: Origins, nothing at all. I guess I can kind of see naming it Dragon Age since the name is recognizable and the game did well, but people who bought the first game could be disappointed if they buy the sequel and expect the same experience, because they aren’t getting it. One main character to choose from, less choice in the type of character you will play, these are fundamental changes to the game, I feel it makes it not really a sequel but a different game set in the same universe. much like Halo Wars is set in the Halo universe but couldn’t be called Halo 4.
You can see the trailer below.
Dragon Age II comes out March 8th for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Thoughts?
A different game in the same universe can still be a sequel. Bioware have said all along that the franchise is about the world rather than a particular character. DA2 clearly will expand the world and probably make fundamental changes to it based on the clues so far.
Meh, they keep adding numbers to the end of all the final fantasies, they have announced that actions from your DA:O save will have an effect of DA:2. the voice in the trailer is Kate Mulgrew, the voice of Flemeth in the first. It’s the same world although with an artistic overhaul.
I believe the reason that there is only one character as opposed to around 8 is because this character will be revealed to be the child of Morrigan Imbued with the essence of the Old one that she stole from the Archdemon. I believe origins was just a set up for this character. And therefore There can’t be multiple options for the back story as you have already played them in “Origins.”
Although I could be proven wrong on this when I finish DA2, but I still think this is a valid theory.
