Do you like Norse mythology? If not, you may not appreciate this book as much as I do. While Unbeatable is not bogged down by the mythology, it is definitely more fun when you enjoy that aspect as well. Hotter Than Hell is the second volume in the Unbeatable series. While the first volume is not essential to this trade, I definitely suggest checking it out for the fight scenes alone.

We follow Dale through his ongoing adventure to protect the afterlife. Well at least until Loki decides to step in and ruin it all. Loki doesn’t stop there though, he has to ruin things for his brother Thor as well. That’s right, Thor is in the mix now as well, but he may not be the Thor we all know so well. Thor and Dale meet up in Hell and work together to escape.

Matthias Wolf creates a world that I would definitely enjoy. There is action, comedy, romance, and my personal favorite aspect, rock and roll. All this mixed with great art by Carlos Gomez makes this a very fun ride that has me anticipating the next volume. I understand that this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re like me and love Norse mythology and rock and roll, then you’ll probably have a great time reading this book.

Carlos Gomez’s art really shines in this book. I really like the way everything looks. It reminds me of an anime in lots of ways with the character designs. I have always had an affinity to anime and especially when it deals with an American property. While this is not exactly the case with this book, I definitely feel like it is a tribute to anime and like the art style for that. The colors are bright and pop out at you and the lines are clean. The characters have crazy rock and roll/anime character hair. I really almost feel like I am looking at the Final Fantasy versions of Norse Gods.

Wolf really captures the feel of a fun action adventure story while still making it fun and funny. I really love how they get to where they are going and what happens with the bar and how he works in all this big bombastic fight scenes throughout the book. I really feel like this could be like a cool video game almost. I really enjoyed reading this book and immediately went back and bought the first volume after I read it. I hope more people check it out, because I definitely want to see a third volume.
