Are you a gamer? Have you ever played an M.M.O.R.P.G.? Do you like comedy? If you said yes to any of these questions, then The Guild is a show for you. This is one of my favorite shows and every time the DVDs come out, I buy them right away. The Guild: Season 1 DVD was no exception as I was extremely excited for this season, as much if not more than I was the first two seasons. As with Kevin Smith movies, the special features make it worth the price alone.

Basically, The Guild follows a group of World of Warcraft players, although it isn’t referred to as that specifically it is meant to be that game, who form a guild and through the guild discuss their issues. Most of the time they don’t realize that they are helping each other become less dysfunctional. All of them have a different personality and different social issues and they all need each other to call each other on their crap. This is the basics of the show as a whole.

Season 3 starts off after the cliffhanger of Season 2 after there was a lot of turmoil amongst guild members. With all this animosity there is bound to be some problems with the group. Not only that, we add in the prospect of a new expansion for “the game” into the mix and it makes everything much more interesting. That is not it though. We also get the addition of a rival guild led by Fawkes, played by Wil Wheaton, on top of all of that.

As a whole it’s obvious how strong the writing for the show is. Each episode is less than ten minutes yet the characters grow and the storyline is always compelling. I never feel rushed and I always feel like there is meaning to each episode. I can’t say that about half of the shows on television that have twice the time. I really hope more people pick up this show and check it out because I can’t wait to see more.

Overall I would say season 3 of The Guild is definitely worth the purchase and everyone should pick it up. If you do pick up this DVD, make sure you listen to the commentaries because they are just as funny if not funnier then the episodes.
