  1. Cruise a better actor than McAvoy??? There goes Flix Of Doom’s credibility.

No one said Cruise was a better actor than McAvoy, that’s first of all, and even if someone did say that, I doubt that’s enough to destroy our credibility. Second, why are you the arbiter of credibility? But, hey, thanks for listening at least.

  3. Justin Vactor – 07:10/2:10:41 – “Yeah… Let’s hope it’s Tom Cruise. I think he’s a better actor, anyway.”

Sorry to come off as a snob. I should not have done that. It’s just a bit jarring to hear such statements that fly in the face of elite film/acting criticism.

By the way, Justin somewhat commented on…

Desperado is not a sequel to El Mariachi. It is a very loose remake. Once Upon A Time In Mexico is a sequel to Desperado. Technically, the series is not a trilogy, in the traditional sense.

So far, I have listened to all your GoD podcasts. This is the first time I felt like I was listening to a show being hosted by newbies, which I know you’re not.

In a bad mood today. This feels much akin to drunk dialing. Sorry.

  4. @Drew,
Ok, then I blame Justin, LOL!!!

By newbies, do you mean people who don’t know film? Because, seriously, I don’t think “newbies” would know this much about Robert Rodriguez. Regardless, we love movies and love talking about them, but these are our opinions on them. It’s ok if you don’t agree with everything we say.

I think Desperado is a sequel because it takes place AFTER the events of El Mariachi. Mariachi already lost his girlfriend to the drug lords, his hand was shot, etc, and now he’s back for revenge. Yes, there’s similar scenes from the first movie, but I wouldn’t call it a remake (even even a loose remake).

Thank you for taking the time to not only listen to the podcast, but to also leave your thoughts. Your comments are always welcome (as long as you’re not being mean to me, LOL!!!).

  5. For the record I do think Cruise is a better actor, thats my personal opinion.

I also agree with Andrew that its a loose remake and, as usual, Eve is wrong and a tyrant. It’s been debated that it is more of a remake than an actual sequel because while the plot does differ in many ways, several scenes are similar. When they are viewed in chronological order however, the stories do not line up. A third theory has been postulated that perhaps this movie is an alternate ending to “El Mariachi”.
