MTV’s Splash Page has brought unto the world a gift from DC Entertainment‘s animated department, the trailer for the adaptation to Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely‘s All Star Superman.
Watch it here below!
As previously reported, longtime DCAU writer Dwayne McDuffie will be heading up the script, and he will once again be working with Bruce Timm and Crisis on Two Earths director Sam Liu.
Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely are easily one of my favorite creative teams, and All Star Superman is high on my list of top comics of all time, so, while I am immensely excited for this project, I also want very little about the story and style to change, but if the trailer is any indication of what’s to happen in this animated feature, I will be let down. The animation lightly mimics Quitely’s art, which is fine. The amount of detail that goes into Frank Quitely’s art is nearly impossible to adapt into animation, but it’s close on a surface level.
On the other hand, the trailer conveys the message that the main storyline of the feature will be the conflict between Lex Luthor and Superman, whereas the 12-issue mini-series used that conflict to tie the issues together, it focused on different aspects of Superman’s life. The most important thing about the comic was his character, how he handled different situations, and gave fans a clear cut reason to fall in love with Clark Kent and Superman all over again. Unfortunately, the trailer looks to be a streamlined version of the story, with its main point being that it’s “Superman’s Last Adventure.”
All that said, I have yet to not enjoy a DC Animated feature on some level, so I’m certain that the movie will stand on its own merit just as the others have, I’ll just have to cry myself to sleep every night until then to prepare myself that there is no way to perfectly adapt a Grant Morrison/Frank Quitely comic book, except for maybe We3. A boy can dream, can’t he?
All Star Superman is set to be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Download in Spring of 2011.

So far I’ve enjoyed all of the DC Animated features and I’m sure this one will not disappoint.
