Zack Snyder Directing New ‘Superman’ Film; General Zod To Be The Villain
  |

After successfully translating comic books like 300 and Watchmen to film, Zack Snyder has been tapped to direct the next Superman movie, reports Deadline.

Also, The Hollywood Reporter reports that General Zod will be the villain in the new film.

Warner Bros. was certainly serious about taking the right approach to their premier super-hero franchise — getting David Goyer (Batman Begins, Blade) to write the screenplay and luring Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception) in to oversee the project [Read: Christopher Nolan To Godfather “˜Superman’ Movie; “˜Dark Knight’ Sequel Being Written]. But now, it seems like the Superman movie we’ve always dreamed of seeing is actually going to happen.

“It’s early yet, but I can tell you that what David and Chris have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I’ve always felt he was kind of awesome. I’ll finish Sucker Punch and get right at it,” Snyder told Deadline.

According to THR:

Goyer is writing the script, which is rumored to have, like “Superman Returns,” a Richard Donner connection. In this movie’s case, it’s a villain connection: General Zod.

General Zod was the major villain in 1980’s Superman II and was played by Terence Stamp.

  1. I like Snyder, but I’m not liking the Zod news. It feels like SR was a remake of Superman I and now they are remaking Superman II. It’s dumb. Superman has tons of other foes, starting with Brainiac.

  2. I think this news is great! 300 and Watchmen are beautiful films to behold. Their directing is fabulous. Perhaps this choice will finally give the Superman franchise the edge it needs to be interesting.

  3. I don’t think watchmen style film would do superman justice. Also, I was hoping for an Apocalypse story line, not a villain we had already seen.

  4. I never really liked General Zod from Superman II, or the others released from the Phantom Zone with him. And Lex Luthor is sooo boring! Personally, I would like to see one of the more unusual villians like Bizarro, Metallo or Parasite. Maybe even the Eradicator or Doomsday. Let’s see something different!

  6. well at least it’s not Luther, again. At least this is an equal to Superman, then in other sequels they can roll out “smarter” villains. I’m just tired of Luther, at least like Batman Begins they didn’t do Joker right away, they did a villain that wasn’t that main stream. This is going to be interesting news for the superman franchise.

  7. Yeah snyder is great…but I agree with nora I’d love to se braniac on film or Bizarro. Hopefully Gen. Zod is just a rumor that stops at the mill.

  8. We’re done with Zod and Luthor….move on to someone else. How about Brainiac or Darkseid?
