5 Awesome Moments From Spike TV’s Scream 2010 Awards [w/ Video]
  |  @   |

Each year, Spike TV’s Scream Awards brings out the coolest stars of horror, scifi, and comics to premiere new footage from upcoming films and give out awards for things like “Best Worst Movie,” “Most Memorable Mutilation,” and “Holy Shit! Scene Of The Year.” No, my friends, this is not your typical humdrum awards show, and it’s certainly not a teenybopper fest. Instead, the audience is filled with horror/scifi fans dressed in costume and an elaborate, ghoulish stage show sets the tone for the ceremony.

Scream 2010 did not disappoint, giving fans plenty of exclusive footage from anticipated films like Paranormal Activity 2, Scream 4, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, as well as a clip from AMC’s upcoming television series The Walking Dead. The awards show also brought out the casts of Twilight, Lost, The Vampire Diaries, Scream 4, and True Blood.

Aside from the footage and stars, the awards ceremony had some really great moments, which involved seeing some fan favorites embracing the roles they are best known for, as well as a shout-out to what was voted the Most Anticipated Film Of The Year.

Here are 5 awesome moments from Spike TV’s Scream 2010 Awards (with video).

1. Inception Spinning-Top Opener

The ceremony began with a shout-out to one of this year’s highest grossing films, Christopher Nolan‘s Inception. Halle Berry presented the year’s most mind-bending adventure with footage from the film, ending with the much-talked-about spinning top. The footage ends to reveal the stage with elaborate screens projecting the backdrop of the “street fold” city from the film, at times appearing to be destroyed, along with a massive spinning-top prop and an orchestra on stage playing the film’s haunting score. Nolan, who won six awards including “Best SciFi Movie” and “Ultimate Scream,” then came out to give one big ol’ acceptance speech. The entire set-up was a perfect way to launch the awards ceremony and set the tone for an explosive evening. (So far, Spike hasn’t released video for this opening, but when they do, we’ll add it here.)

2. Sigourney Weaver Emerges From Alien Egg

A third of the way into the show, Avatar director James Cameron came out to honor Sigourney Weaver with the first ever “Scream Heroine Award” based in part on her badass portrayal as Ellen Ripley in the Alien films, a pioneering role ushering women in scifi into the action hero realm, a departure from the stereotypical sexy kitten/damsel-in-distress stereotypical roles. Weaver getting this award for her roles in films like Alien, Ghostbusters, and Avatar is a great moment in itself, but even better was the way the actress came out to accept it — riding inside a gigantic Alien Egg! Most triumphant! (The video for this hasn’t been released yet, but we’ll add it here when it’s out.)

3. Back To The Future Reunion

With the upcoming release of the Back To The Future 25th Anniversary Edition coming to DVD and Blu-ray later this month, the beloved 1985 classic film starring Michael J. Fox has been on everyone’s lips lately. Fox and his Future co-star Lea Thompson took part in a recent “Reunions” photoshoot issue for EW magazine, and Fox even did a promo for the Scream 2010 Awards. At the ceremony, Fox came out on stage with another Future co-star, Christopher Lloyd, as well as everyone’s favorite time-traveling vehicle, the DeLorean. It was a touching moment as the Parkinson’s disease-stricken Fox thanked all the fans, who screamed what seemed to be the loudest and longest for the Future reunion. You can watch the video of the moment just below.

4. Bill Murray In Full Ghostbusters Garb

After Sarah Silverman announced Zombieland as the winner of “Best Horror Movie,” a person who seemingly looked like a sewer worker came up from the floor, eventually revealing himself to be Bill Murray in his full-on Ghostbusters attire, complete with ghostbustin’ proton pack! Murray, who also won an award for “Best Cameo” for his role in Zombieland, accepted the award as the crowd chanted “Bill!”. The comedic actor said, “there’s so many people to thank and blame on a night like this” and went on to thank “the undead” ones who’ve died, but “still live on forever” like his friends and former co-stars John Candy, John Belushi, Rodney Dangerfield, and several others. Watch the video of this moment just below.

5. Ryan Reynolds and the Green Lantern Power Battery

What better way to end off such an eventful evening than with the award for “Most Anticipated Film of the Year”? Up against The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Tron Legacy, and Cowboys and Aliens, the most anticipated movie award went to Green Lantern, the upcoming film starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern. After the film’s star Blake Lively announced the winner, the stage became bathed in green light as a massive replica of the Green Lantern Power Battery appeared. As the crowd roared and held up green lights, the sounds of Reynolds reciting the Lantern Oath (“In brightest day, in blackest night…”) could be heard above the din, until the power battery spun around revealing the actor himself. Reynolds said it was an honor for the film to receive such an award and that “… it’s a helluva lot more gratifying than winning the ‘Who Gives A Fuck’ award.” He’s got a point. He was also thrilled that the film, which doesn’t come out until June 2011, is already on everyone’s radar. (Spike TV hasn’t released the video for this moment yet, so for now below is a very short clip from the live ceremony taken by who someone in attendance. It shows the Power Battery coming out and Ryan Reynolds being introduced.)

Honorable Mention

Girl On Fire

When Marilyn Manson came out to present the award for “Best TV Show,” he wasn’t alone. Tied up to a pole on stage next to the shock rocker was a blonde babe dressed in nothing but a white tank top and skimpy panties … and she was on fire. Yes, you read that right, she was on fire. Pretty impressive, so much so that it almost upstaged the award winners, True Blood. I say almost because once the audience got passed this nifty effect, Manson had to make sure to get some attention for himself by shouting that True Blood is his favorite show, and then he threw his microphone up in the air at the nearby cast and creators of the show. If that wasn’t enough, he also had to stand behind creator Alan Ball and make hand gestures as Ball tried to make his acceptance speech. So yeah, weird Marilyn Manson behavior; awesome fire moment.

Did you get to see Spike TV’s Scream 2010 Awards tonight? What were some of your favorite moments?
