  |  @   |

Amazon is offering up Star Trek VIII: First Contact for purchase for only $3.99 through their Video On Demand service.

This digital deal is only for today, Wednesday, October 20 until midnight PST, so grab it while you can. The digital version is regularly $9.99, and the 24-hour rental is $2.99.

Visit the Star Trek VIII: First Contact product page to purchase the film.

Released in 1996, First Contact is the eighth film in the Star Trek franchise and the second with the full cast of the Star Trek: The Next Generation television series, starring Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard. After the let down of its predecessor, Generations, First Contact has gone on to be the favorite for TNG fans and one of the best in the film series.

Synopsis: Capt. Picard and his crew follow the Borg back in time to stop them from preventing Earth from initiating first contact with Vulcans.

First Contact is a much darker film, as Picard is once again faced with the Borg, the race of cybernetic humanoids that once assimilated him. The entire crew must go back in time, where Picard and the android Data, now fitted with an emotion chip, deal with the threat of the Borg, while the rest of the Enterprise crew must ensure that the humans on Earth make first contact with the Vulcans so that history won’t be changed. This is the first Star Trek film that stars only the crew of TNG (Generations starred William Shatner and other members of the original cast). When I wrote about the sale on Generations last week, I mentioned that the less than stellar film was at least a step closer to getting to First Contact, which is an awesome movie.

Visit the Video on Demand page to learn more about the service (you can stream the film right on your computer, or download it to you PC, and more).
