AMC’s Zombie Hit ‘The Walking Dead’ Already Gets Its Season 2 Greenlight

Well that didn’t take long!

AMC has sent out a press release confirming that their new uber-hit zombie TV series, The Walking Dead, will indeed get a second season. The first season will only run six episodes, but the first two episodes have delivered big numbers so far. The debut on Halloween night brought in record-breaking numbers with 3.6 million viewers in the ages 18-49 demographic, and 5.3 million viewers overall. The second episode last night delivered 3.3 million in the 18-49, and 4.7 million viewers overall, making the second season greenlight a very easy decision.

Senior vice president of Scripted Programming for Fox International, Sharon Tal Yguado, said of the announcement “I wish all programming decisions were no-brainers like this one. The Walking Dead is a TV masterpiece on so many levels. We want at least 10 seasons, if not more. Kudos to AMC!”

What’s even more exciting, the second season will come with thirteen brand new episodes instead of the six we’re seeing now. No word on when production will begin or when the show will premiere.

AMC President Charlie Collier also spoke on the news, saying “The Dead has spread! No other cable series has ever attracted as many Adults 18-49 as The Walking Dead. This reaffirms viewers’ hunger for premium television on basic cable. We are so proud to be bringing back The Dead again, across the globe.”

For those who yet to discover this new gem — which is easily the best new show on TV along with HBO’s Boardwalk Empire — you can catch it Sunday nights on AMC, and you can catch up by watching the first two episodes On Demand now! Trust us, you won’t regret it…so long as you’re into zombies, of course.

  1. You don’t have to be into zombies to enjoy this new series. This series is all about human emotion, choices, consequences, sacrifices, and what it’s all about to actually love one another.

  2. While this is definitely a good show it isn’t bringing anything new to the zombie table. Same old plot lines, same old issues, same old situations.
So when this is called a “masterpiece” it just makes me cringe. Don’t get me wrong it is a good show with a very strong acting cast. It is just slow to get rolling and when it is all rehashed material it makes it all the more tedious.

  3. Brian, I have to respectfully disagree with you. What makes this show great is not what new material it brings to the zombie genre, but the fact that it combines all the great pieces from films and has created put it on television. Something that is revolutionary in my opinion.
